source?

we don't get **** back, except nuclear waste

Las Vegas isn't considered a terrorist threat for some reason, so we get very little money for homeland defense.

Our schools are the worst in the nation, so we get very little education money, because of the no child left behind act.

something about republican party discipline. i love the fact that if you disagree with something the party does, you must be a 'moderate' or 'liberal' and therefore not a true member of the republican party.

all the more reason to **** the parties in general and hope that they get completely, utterly destroyed. destroy them, and then ban political parties--all of them, for they are nothing more than political evil.

Too large? The US can't even manage an occupation of a third world country. Too expensive maybe, but not too large if you seriously intend to go around changing regimes.

Of course. However the fact remains that the US has too few boots to put on any ground to be able to maintain commitments and take on what must qualify as a 4th world country at the same time as a moderately sized 3rd.

If you don't have the manpower to do it right, maybe regime changes should be passed over. I was and am in favour of getting rid of Saddam, but I don't fancy him being replaced by something worse 5 years from now on account of the US administration radiacally underestimating manpower requirements for subduing a hostile nation.

Go on slash social services. Then the US will unquestionably be a third world country.

In fact I'm begging for them to do it. Slash the lot. Then it will only be a couple of years before your society resembles that of the Congo.

When the Republicans understand that government spending can be efficiency promoting in certain areas perhaps they will be allowed to play with the big kids.

Texas does alright.

On some surveys we do rate the worst. Although on others we do not. It depends on what they are measuring at the time. We do the worst on reading though, our mathematics is only like 3rd worst

Much of that is due to our very, very large mexican population. Many do not know how to speak, read, or write English. And we continue the archaic method of bi-lingual education. The same systme California abandoned years ago because it was in-effective.

So that is why our reading scores are dead last.

Mississippi is usually up there with us. Often listed as second worst.

We are doing cuts, one of the things Rumsfeld is doing is closing useless bases around the globe. still there is only so much blood that will be squeezed from the discretionary spending stone.

No. We're the ones who *despise* the left-wingers *and* right-wingers because neither seem to know how to govern a diverse, democratic nation. All they care about are their particular interest groups. Moderates such as myself, OTOH, are more concerned with how to govern said nation and keep wingers from tearing each other's throats out and bringing down everything they love around them in the process.

I'm hoping this is the year the small-government Republicans will throw up their hands and vote Libertarian or Constitutionalist. Sure, that might throw the election to Kerry the way Nader did for Bush last time, but so what? Even if you think Kerry is pond scum, what's he going to do that's worse than Bush? Run record deficits? Give illegal aliens a free pass? Throw money at the National Endowment for the Arts?

If you find Kerry and Bush to both be unpalatable, you might as well cast a vote which makes a statement. If 20-25% of the votes went to a small-government candidate, it would send a powerful message.

But who? Russo? All my lib friends are liking Russo, I saw him on Fox News and he was crazy as a loon. Even for a libertarian he was pretty out there. I sure hope he doesn't get the nomination. Nolan will be better.

But anyways, the party is screwed. The only hope is for libertarian minded folks (and I mean Cato type libertarians who know how to play nice with others, not the radicals in the LP) to take over one of the big two parties.

I do think Bush is gonna be quite damaged this year when all his liberty minded, small government republicans stay home. Things might change in their party if he looses because of it. I'd really like to see that.

H. W. Bush lost cause he alienated the religious right. Then his son catered to them to get elected. If W. Bush looses cause he alienates the libertarians, then maybe some future candidate will cater to libertarians.

One can hope.

Right.

I'm glad that I fall into the category of a moderate republican.

I think you need to adjust your definition of the 'religious right'.

Hardly any of them are big spenders.

Pragmatists? Why then are they 'republican'?
