I just installed settlers 2 gold to try it myself, and although it could not detect or identify my mouse driver I had no problems at all using it inside the game.

Now I haven't tested to see if I can get it working Virtal PC (yet), but I wonder how many times it's possible to install those virtual pc's. I mean like if I start Virtual PC, install VPC inside VPC, then run VPC inside VPC and go on for some time... would be interesting to see how many times I can do this before my computer says stop

Good luck And if you just cant get it to play, i'd recommend getting an old PC for playing the older games - atleast you'll get the full game experience(sound/music etc)

I do have an old machine laying around, I just have to reinstall Windows first... there's just a tiny little problem: I can't get the cd-drive working... and I don't have any disk-drives

Takes 2 seconds to swap the working cd drive into your old machine. Then maybe you can find a *cough* censored *cough* so you don't need the drive permanently.

Seriously, having an old machine ready for such an eventuality is the way forward.

I've got the gold version of the game, and compared to the origonal(even on the amiga) it seems to run quite slowly on my pc(a P166 with 48mb). I'm within the required specs so is this just the way S2 is(or was)?Not that speed is a must on a game like this, but i'm just surprised that my amiga version of the first game moved alot quicker(your guys moved stuff around with a bit more enthusiasm). Any ideas/info on this?

I had it originally on a horrid P133 with sh*tty everything. Thankfully my backup win98 machine has a 1.2Ghz athlon and 512MB of RAM.

ok im sure its fine - i think its meant to move at a slower pace, Settlers is a very relaxing game after all and i think with the second version they just chilled it out a little more

I finally installed S2 inside the virtal machine, and it works fine.. the only problem is my mouse... for some reason it acts a little strange inside the virtal machine... I can get used to it though (I believe)


I hope I'll be able to get the network working, so I can share my files on my real computer... would suck if I have to burn those few games to cd, just to be able to access them in Win98


Now I just need to 'buy' that virtal machine

Just remember DO NOT SAVE THE GAME while "v" is on. This (in my experience at least) corrupted my save-games. I just turn v off for a second, save, then turn it back on again. Test it first to see if it really does cause you problems.

Gold works for me using the nosound.bat in compatibitly mode. I just copied the installed program from an old 98 install I used to use and it works. Sound would be nice though.
