People still use the default?

Looks a bit interesting mod... didn't read all though...
Did they change anything with the navigation mode?

im so old fashioned

I like the sound of this bit:

'The streets of towns are filled with transients and even bandits; the waters around islands are likewise filled with the transients and bandits of the sea.
Houses have residents, with whom you can gossip, trade, or even threaten; they may be able to help if you're wounded or hunted by the guards.'

This i believe refers to the real time(3D mode) part of the game - which is great, as it was a lonely experience sailing the sea's without meeting other ships. A great addition

Sadly i think the Navigation Map screen is still the same but atleast the real time mode is now much more believable.

They have no access to the .exe file, so there are limits to what they can do - still this particular Mod seems to add a whole heap of improvements.

Still from reading the forums it does have a few bugs - still i'd be willing to give it a go if i could

Inflate your Upload Space

Having spent a few days digging around those links it is a sad story that PotC was another game rushed out by the publisher before the game was really ready (but thats no great surprise as this was meant to be Sea Dogs 2)

Many of the things that the Mod adds were just disabled functions that should have been in the game(like the ships cabin that you start the game in, but cant access after leaving it and a few missions and other ships).

Of course a whole heap more has beed added - i think the modders had a wish list of features they wanted added, some from the origonal Pirates(like owning land and titles and the ability to play one nation of against the other), some just improvements on the PotC game(like your crew needing/consuming food+rum, being able to change clothes, proper trade system etc).

I've got to wait a few more months until i get my new PC, then PotC will be on my shopping list and this Mod damn - never thought i'd love a new fangled 3D game so much

Enter the AD-FREE zone

A quick update:

I've added further links on the 'link page'(second from top) for things about PotC and one site with good info on pirates.

I have actualy played another game now(LMA MAnager 2004), but i put it down to celebrating the Greek win in Euro2004 - which was an unexpected but great result.

So apart from that lapse of a few hrs ive been playing PotC fairly intensively.

Hand-to-hand Combat is getting harder now(my character is level 7), the enemies are getting more hit points and just being more handy with their weapons, more hits get through my 'block' than used to be the case. Also its getting harder to keep my officers alive everytime - especially when boarding an enemy ship.

Other than the central story line to follow, PotC doesnt offer as much variety as i first thought.
I havent been able to get my services hired by another nation yet, and i'm pretty certain in this xbox version; that i cant own land or titles?

So that leaves the main story, combat and trading as the main things to do. Still what makes this game is the amazing sailing model - i can still spend hrs in real time sailing! Its so hypnotic

I'm looking forward to giving the Mods a go or better yet waiting for the actual SeaDogs2 to be released by Akella

oh if anyone can translate some of the russian text from the website( here )of the upcoming SeaDogs2 and post an overview here(in english) that would be gratefully recieved

ah the wonders of babelfish - i've compiled the results of babelfishes translation of the russian site into a word document(37kb) you can download. I've scanned it with the latest update of my virus software

Some interesting(and funny!) info in the doc - but its possible to work out the general info from babels translation. SeaDogs2 is called Corsairs2 at present and it sounds like its going to be the mother of all pirate games......it will improve on PotC is just about every aspect - i cant wait

Sorry... for the terminally lazy like myself, could you just confirm for me that this game is (was?) Sea Dogs 2? Sea dogs being one of my favourate "3 guys around 1 pc, doing badly what one person could have done, but acting all piratey" games.

Tired of ads?

well the game Pirates of the Caribbean which was released by Bethseda and Disney, was going to be the sequel to the origonal SeaDogs(which sadly i never played).
But a movie license and some 'quick get it out NOW!' publisher antics ended up with the game 'Pirates of the Caribbean' , which is the game i got for my xbox last month.

So yes in a way it is.

But if you mean the last bit of info i've(babelfish) translated from Akella's website(the developers of SeaDogs etc) - then its a differnet story.

And this new game they are doing is going under the title(in russia) of 'CorairsII' , but most of the fan forums of SeaDogs seem to be calling it the real SeaDogs2.

hope that clears it up for you

Game AAR 10/7/4

'gameplay mode = realistic'

last night i attacked a fort from the sea - it was awesome fun and SOOO hard, i had to re-attempt it many times

It took me two attempts before i realised i had to actually shoot and destroy the cannons on the forts wall - i'd been rushing in(and getting my three ships sunk!) to get close.

And this is FUN i'll just say range and paitence is the key

after the cannon battle which lasted for about 30mins real time, you then get to attack the fort in some hand-to-hand encounters. I had to run around 3 levels, each a little harder than the last, and defeat about 12 enemy soldiers by my self - it might not sound like much, but when you have 3 or more guys attacking you it does get very difficult to take them down, you have to wait for the right time to switch from defense to attack. Get it wrong and one hit can kill you.

Which means you have to do it all over, from the begining as you cant save once the attack on the fort has commenced!!

Still its worth the hour or so of effort as you get to keep the booty from your raid, and also a decent amount of experience points shared around all who took part in the action.

Its much harder to do successfully when compared to Sid's origonal Pirates, as it should be.
Still i'm sure with a couple of battleships and a high level crew, and some more experience, it might become as easy as taking forts in the origonal Pirates?

And i should just add that trying to resist the lure of piratical activities is difficult(and now my ships hoist black sails!) - still luckily i can buy my way into heaven at the churches, just like in real life

Arghhh! tis a sweet release as can be ad on them ungodly calculas machines, cuss me old bones to Davey Jones locker if m' tongue spake untrue!

Suffering from ads?

Its official,

My love affair with this game on the xbox has come to sad end
Without the Mods that you can get on the PC - she eventualy comes across as the kind of date that first blows you away with her looks, but after a few months her lack of personality comes through.

I still load it up now and then - but i just dont have the heart for the 6 hour sessions we used to do

My eye is now firmly on the real sequel to SeaDogs that this was going to be - it should be out in the next few months and is going under the name of Corsairs II in russia. A english language version is in the works.

till then i'm getting my Pirate pleasure with Cutthroats - even if that 'Dorset' accent on the guy who shouts "sail Ho!" + "She's flying Spanish colours captain!" gets annoying quite quickly

of course it is, a classic - should be up there on peoples pirate list with Sid's 'Pirates!' ,and with a bit of luck SeaDogs 2 will join the pirate hall of fame

And yes Dr.Spike - PC's are better than consoles for many reasons.
Still for the price of a decent graphics card you(definately I!) would need to play PotC(i guess?) - the xbox does have its moments, and its much more relaxing/comfortable to play on a console.
I've discovered there is room for both in an old gamers life

True - and the older you get the less time you seem to have for gaming

@ Barinthus - i guess i just find the Pirates theme a really suitable one for a computer game - lots of fun and potential for sure (and so many missed oportunities!)

Anyway through my Pirates of the Caribbean affair i've made many links in this thread that will lead pirate game lovers to some interesting places, hopefully well away from Davy Jones locker
