Round 15
The Lasers' Red Glare
Prologue
The Great War for the Galaxy was coming to a close, though the average citizen might hardly suspect it. Indeed, the battles had been getting larger, the fleets vaster, and the casualties heavier.
So was the view on the ground. The heavens offered a more interesting, shall we say, perspective.
From the Overlords' eye view, the end was near for some, and would never come for another.
For Vlad, there was little question what his fate was. He was doomed. No second doubts. But at least when he would go down, he would invoke the spirit of a great leader of the days before humanity ruled the stars- Vlad the Impaler. Embarking on a crash program, he build an impressive fleet of eight laser titans and 1 laser battleship. Then he ordered his fleet to close in and spread out for maximum damage.
Both Ljube and Skanky decided to attack Vlad and pick up his bases, which would seal a victory. Ljube would strike first with a good sized armada.
But Skanky was no novice tactician. Suspecting such a move, and knowing Ljube's communication habits, he gave his admirals a contingency plan. Should Vlad's bases already be occupied, they would then proceed to attack Ljube himself.
Confident he could easily defeat Vlad, Ljube only sent a part of his vast fleet, which he ordered into a close in bunch together formation. As his fleet found itself hurtling toward Vlad in a cosmic game of chicken, it looked like there was going to be an extremely bloody battle ahead.

Vlad wasted no time in getting to the kill. At point blank range, he opened fire with all his lasers. They sliced through Ljube's fighters like they were cheese and scored critical hits on the majority of his ships.
But Vlad was not done. His captains channeled energy from all of his ships systems, powering down shields and even life support for a second barrage on Ljube's fleet. Ljube launched a massive wave of torpedoes, hoping to decoy Vlad's gunners, but it was too late. 266 hits were inflicted.
Vlad had Ljube surrounded. His ships, once spread out, now bore down hard on Ljube's close formation, and rammed themselves at the few surviving vessels. Ljube's fleet was finished. Vlad saluted his captains, they had done him well, but at a steep price. Taking the helm of his flagship, Vlad shaped both his and the galaxy's destiny.
Furious, Ljube's captains unloaded everything that wasn't tied down at Vlad's ships. More fighters, more torpedoes, and finally a frenzied double barrage of lasers vaporized Vlad's fleet in their death throes.

An odd quiet followed the battle, as the last bits of light bounced off a cloud of stardust and into the night.
Epilogue
Back on his homeworld, Ljube fumed. Victory had been so close! Had he sent just another four titans, those thirteen planets would have cemented his control of the galaxy. But such are the perils of fighting a desparate yet brilliant foe.
A few days later, a peacekeeping force of 45 titans bearing the colors of Skanky Burns restored order in the former Vlad Empire.

You're wrong. Both do, but quite differently.
Round 16
Asymmetrical Warfare
Prologue
It may seem strange that two admirals, each equipped with the largest fleets, would attempt such radically different strategies.
It is these differences though, that separate history from the hard sciences, and victors from the vanquished.
Knowing that time was now against him, Ljube decided he had to strike Skanky immediately before his adversary grew even stronger. Every turn waited meant being outclassed by three additional titans.
With that, he built 14 shiny new fighter titans and 2 fighter frigates, and set off with his entire fleet to bear down on Skanky.
At Skanky's homeworld, Skanky welcomed the commissioning of seven new lasertitans, eight new fightertitans, and 2 new torpedo titans.
The engines of war had been thrown in motion though, and before long Ljube had crashed the party. The following engagement would involve almost every ship in the galaxy.

The battle opened quite lopsided as swarms of Ljube fighters descended on Skanky's torpedo ships. To add incapacitation to injury, many of Skanky's torpedoes missed Ljube's dispersed fleet completely. 331 hits were scored. The second wave was a textbook repeat, with Ljube dealing another 331 hits.
Then came a brief lull in action with a laser duel, where Skanky's superior numbers dealt Ljube some damage at long range.
Then Ljube's luck ran out. Learning from his enemy, Skanky had decided to launch fighters. Although they were met by an equal amount of lasers, the long ranges and inability of Ljube's fleet to cover each other led to 150 planes getting through.
Next, Ljube fired torpedoes, doing minor damage to Skanky's lasers. But it would be Skanky who would have the second-to-last laugh of this round. He launched a last wave of fighters. Responding with a small fleet of torpedo ships, Ljube was overwhelmed. 525 bomb hits were scored on his ships. They weren't enough to destroy Ljube's fleet, but it would certainly weaken him and limit his victory.

As it turned out, this battle became a battle of attrition. Casualties were appalling on both sides. Ljube conquered one base in the process as a spoils of war. He started to count his casualties...
...but it was a useless exercise. An urgent radio message came in from his homeworld. They were under attack.
Two skanky carrier frigates had just sailed through the undefended space and were making mincemeat of Ljube's planetary garrisons. Ljube wanted desparately to respond, but his fleet was too far away, and in need of fuel and repairs.
Ljube, the one who had nearly conquered the galaxy with his cunning and treachery, was now defeated by a simple mistake of forgetting to lock the back door when going off to war.
As the statues were toppled and the planets liberated, Skanky spread his rule over a total of 54 planets and was prepared to launch a fleet of 20 titans the following turn. This would be more than Ljube's entire surviving fleet.
At this time, he decided to declare himself the first Galactic Overlord.

(Full writeup of stats to be done in about 10 hours after I get home from work. IIRC Ljube ends with 17 titans (1 damaged), 1 base, 2 BPs, while Skanky emerges with 26 titans (1 damaged), 54 bases, and 102 BPs)
