A critically important dispatch to the Lord Rickety:
Greetings, good cousin
Firstly, I wish to assure you that the Imperial Russian Empire means no harm to the King of England. We do however, remember our enemies, and Spain is certainly one of them.
Czar Alexander would like to assure your Royal Highness, King George III, of Russia's loyalty to the Imperial Grand Alliance formed in the dark days when that dastardly Republican Napolean threatened the very existence of our noble families.
I ask you, good sir....how many of our Imperial Empires have succumbed to the French way and converted to Republic? The answer is none. We are all still loyal Monarchies, with family ties between our nations that will last forever.
Please remember, oh regal cousin....Russia has always remained faithful to the ideals of the Grand Alliance. Russia has consistently supported her brother-in-arms, Lord Paddy of Prussia, in their struggle for freedom against the French despot. Prussia, you will recall, was in the front lines of the battle against the French and suffered badly at her hands. Russia has done her best to assist Prussia, by gifting her cities of conquest to restore her empire to its former glory.
Russia has also remained faithful to you, oh great King George III, in our moral support of your wars against France and Austria. It is only the tyrrany of distance that has prevented our armies from playing a more active part in the offensive wars you have conducted on the mainland against our common foe.
It is against this background of brotherhood and goodwill that I now ask you to consider your position. Through no fault of your own, you are being courted by the lies of a desperate Spanish despot....whose name we do not yet even know, since there have been 2 revolutions in his land recently. Surely Spain is going the way of France, and will become a revolutionary Republic....a form of government that as you know, is abhorrent to citizens of our class.
There is surely more for me to say to you on this subject, but it is clear that I have said enough already. The choice is clear. In fact, for your royal personage there is essentially no choice. Your heritage demands continued allegiance to your allies, Russia and Prussia.
I look forward to your considered and positive response.
Your friend and cousin
Alexander Romanov, of Russia |
Your argument for our continuing good relations is compelling Cousin Alexander. Your fleet, however, seems to be spending rather a long time visiting our ports, as does the Prussian expedition.
The question remains, why fight a nation so far from your boundaries over the loss of a few sailors. As I understand it, this was merely the settling of an old score etched up in Sweden many years ago.
General Marcos has made strong friendly overtures, and presents no threat to your good self, nor indeed to
Cousin Paddyschmirff.
I face a dilemma.
The way I see it, I have some obvious choices: 1. Stand aloof from your fussin and fightin, 2. Ally with each of you, and be forced into a war against the 1st aggressor, or 3. Remain true to my original indication of loyalty to General Marcos.
Ohh, the burdens of empire...

Marcos (you cowardly bolshevik):
I may have considered a cease-fire, but your continuing acts of aggression have destroyed all chances of such. Surely you do not consider the rest of the world so naive as to ignore your two-faced approach to diplomacy. You ask for peace, then have the nerve to sink 2 of my ships. In "retaliation" for what? You were the first aggressor and struck first at 2 of my scout ships. When my reinforcements arrived and sunk your ships, you then claim to act in retaliation? You are a liar and a scallywag!
You are now confident, as you feel you can hide behind your recently signed MPP with Britain. You may find the world is not as simple a place as you had hoped.
Lord Rickety, the King George III (my affectionate cousin):
Witness the Spaniard's disregard of any peaceful intentions. He is a snake, no less. He talks peace in one breath, and sinks my ships in another. I am regretful that you have signed an MPP with him. As you can see, he has been the first aggressor subsequent to the signing of your MPP. He is also presumptious of your support by stating that "if you attack me again you will become involved in a war that will destroy you". He is clearly hoping for me to continue to attack him, so that you will rush to his side to fight his war for him, causing damage to both our nations.
I understand the pressures that have been brought to bear upon you , cousin George. However, should you be forced to declare war on me because of this ill-advised MPP you have been forced to sign, I pray that for both our sakes you continue to remain physically neutral. While I respect the strength of the English forces, Russia is in no way daunted by them and as you know, possesses significant military might of her own. Please, I beseech you, do not become embroiled in a war that is not yours to fight, out of a misplaced sense of honour towards this barbarian. Russia will not capitulate, and Russia will not bend to blackmail. Please, do not bring misery upon my people, as to do so will surely bring misery upon your own.
I should also add that I expect Lord Paddy without hesitation and without prompting on my part, will back me up in these statements.
