I have the exact opposite problem some of the time. Im on a 2 PC network both sharing cable through a router. If i havent visited a webpage for a while, say an hour or two, ive been playing a MP game say for that time or away from the PC altogether, I go to open a webpage and NONE open, but apolyton always does. Not one other website gets through. Whats happening? and why does only apolyton get through?
When i reboot this always fixes the problem, i can visit all pages again.

I can access that url at home, but still not 'Poly, unless I use Kass's advice (as I am now) and use a manual proxy.
I guess it's the ISP being idiots and blocking it then, so I'll get on to them to stop it.
Thanks for the help |
How do you use a manual proxy?
I can access that url from work but not poly. A friend can't access some PS2 forum which the traceroute also goes through ev1servers.net.
I have tried both cable lines from work, outside the firewall, but neither can access poly (mainpage, or forums)

quote: Since about four weeks, I have very rare (at most 5% of the cases) access to Apolyton from my computer at home, while my access from work is near 100%. I did some research on this matter, but could not find a reason. I don't have any trouble to access other websites and internet fora.
The problem is, the http requests time out with no response whatsoever.
First I thought, that it is a firewall issue, since some of the spam ad banners use ports other than 80 or 443, which I have allowed for HTTP traffic (all others being blocked). But this can not be the reason, since the problem persists, when I turn my firewall off. Besides, I don't have any troubles with other forum sites with banner ads.
It can't be a popup blocker issue either, since it doesn't matter, if I use the Internet Explorer 6 (no blocker) or Mozilla Firefox (has blocker, but I didn't touch the default setting, so I don't even know if it's on or off).
Finally, it can't be a DNS issue, since all other domain names are resolved properly. I run my own name server and never had trouble resolving addresses.
My guess is now, that a large part of the address range my provider uses, is blocked by Apolyton itself. I have a dynamical IP address at home, as opposed to work, where my address is fixed. My question is, can this be the reason? I can't think of another one. It's the same, every day. I access from work at 5:30pm - Apolyton is there. I access from home ten minutes later - Apolyton is gone.
Please? |
I posted the above in another thread, but it was shut down by one of the site's friendly moderators and I was directed to this thread with the information, that besides tons of spam I would find some useful discussion here. I found the spam easily, but unfortunately could not extract anything out of the discussion, that would be of any use to solve my problem. It seems I have the same problem, that Drogue has (or had? is it solved meanwhile?).
I get scolded by my PBEM partners, because I don't post the infamous "turn sent" anymore, but what can I do, I tend to play at home and not at work, so I can't post it. And I have troubles setting games up for others (which I am sometimes asked to do), because I can't access the discussion threads with the data I need to set the games up, and so on. It's pretty annoying.
And what is the saddest of all: It is only Apolyton. I use to post freely at other gaming sites with no problems whatsoever. What can be the problem?
