It's 9:30 in the morning and I'm tired.
Chapter V
August 5th 2004
Too bad George Orwell isn't living in my head, I think he would have found the notion of Winston (although of the Churchill variety) becoming an unperson-ality amusing. That or frightening.
Herr Freud's passing has made it quite a bit more difficult to decipher how these disappearings are taking place. One of the personalities is probably behind it, as was the case with the vanishing personas: indeed, after enough expelling, they have now clearly ceased to vanish, they are merely disasppearing, and the bouts of unconsciousness are gone. All the better for me.
I suddenly have an urge to tune in to Finnish television. I wonder why. Probably because there's nothing on cable tonight, just the latest film on Martin Luther and the umpteenth rerun of Enemy at the Gates.

Chapter VI
August 6th 2004
William Shakespeare has been expelled.
August 9th 2004
Nothing new has happened.
August 13th 2004
I'll be damned. They must have got them all. No more expulsions, vanishings or disappearings.
Epilogue
Kassiopeia was arrested for vandalism (theft of a phone booth) and murdering a man - Security cameras showed him in a stolen Darth Vader suit strangling a random bystander to death. He was considered clinically insane and was admitted to an asylum, where he and the rest of his personas lived happily ever after under heavy medication and playing chess.
Clues
The Mafia were Spaced Cowboy (Sigmund Freud) and Method (Will Shakespeare).
Chapter I:
quote: Last night things got weirder. Well, weirder than usual. I remember sitting on my computer watching History Channel, and then I wake up on my floor completely naked. If I were the partying sort, it'd make sense.
What's more, I've been strangely happy today. One of the personalities is gone too. I suspect it may have something to do with relieving pressure. I've spun up this theory that each of my personalities represents a repressed urge that manifests itself in the form of a familiar image that somehow stands for that urge. When the urge is satisfied, the image vanishes, the pressure gone. |
History Channel - the murderer is a historical figure. The pressure stuff was remotely inspired by Freud's theories on the reasons for neuroses.
Chapter II:
quote: The personas are in panic now though. A huge storm inside my head. I did not lose consciousness last night like I did with Darth Vader, so that means that there's probably a second force at work here - but with what manner, that I can not discern. Not that I can complain, I can almost feel a ring around my head loosening up as they disappear. |
A storm, a tempest, The Tempest, Shakespeare. Yeah, I know.
Chapter III:
quote: So, now they expelled the sun god Ra. That's quite superb, but my ego feels way too small tonight |
Dukie got that one right on the mark. Bullseye!
quote: Ten hours have gone and I don't have any recollection of them. I was just now about to start pondering, to identify which persona disappeared this time, but then I saw a phone booth. In my bedroom. And I don't have any idea how I, I'd assume, got it inside. In any case, someone out there is one phone booth short, and it's quite apparent that Doctor Who was the victim this time. It's not one of those red British ones, but a phone booth is a phone booth. |
I tried to sprinkle in these references to Id, but realised that they'd be too cryptic. I guess the superego part wasn't cryptic enough.
Chapter IV:
All paragraphs, ignoring the dates, start with letters from Method's name: M, E, T, H, O, D. I was so freaked by Spaced getting outed so soon that I tried to balance it out by making Method a tougher nut to crack. Alas...
Chapter V:
Joncha got this one perfectly. I guess I vastly underestimated you this time, and vastly overestimated you in Corporate Mafia. Congratulations are in order. I suppose.
I feel that this - I - was a failure though, this was like the shortest Mafia game ever, and probably because my clues were so frigging obvious. Or, I don't know, maybe you have gotten brighter lately.
