Well, it can't be coincidental that most great cuisine in Europe comes from Catholic countries or regions. And they also have those precious beer monks in Ireland and Bavaria. Ever met a Scandinavian priest who could brew like that?

...and if so, could you send him to Copenhagen one of these days?

Yeah and I guess maybe Protestantism being less flamboyant in nature than Catholisism makes for less fancy food. But even so I image the average diet before as well as after 1536 consisted of mainly bark og gråstein (and probably som herring).

Munkholm (love the name) sounds like a cozy place. It's not exactly the hall of Valhal though, what with that crazy demand that visitors leave their weapons at the door before entering.

landmass = continent

Two of the largest disagreements in listing continents are whether Europe and Asia should be considered separately or combined into Eurasia, and whether North America and South America should be considered separately or combined into America. A few geographers have also suggested grouping Europe, Asia, and Africa into a continent of Eurafrasia (see Africa-Eurasia).

some geographers agree with me

picture for reference...

looks like it could all be ONE continent

In geological terms, the continents are quite clearly divided by the divisions between continental plates. As this is a heck of lot simpler than arguing over the geography of what chance has put above the water line, it seems to be the simplest definition.

Diss making another post without reading the thread. 6 pages is too long . But the title says food, but judging from the last page I don't think it is.

I was at a chinese restaurant the other day. Not one of these fancy deals, just the ones the have at the corner of the interesection. Small joints. But they serve soup with the meals. I never seen that before. I wasn't sure what to get. I got the wonton soup which seemed pretty good. I'm not sure what it was, but it was good. Any other recommendations?

Immortal:

thank you for seeing it my way. the continental shelves clearly place N. and S. America as one continent and Afro-Eurasia as one continent. thanks

or you could say N. America is actually two continents because of California being a different plate from the rest but that's just silly.

Or the small ones, which are generally called subcontinents. India is generally called the subcontinent, but there are actually quite a few.

That's not true. Suppose you have 100 questions and 5 choices each, to get a 0 the chance is simply 0.8100. Small, yes, but people win lotteries all the time.

Well, if you replace "water" with "major impediment to movement", then the Europe - Asia division makes sense, but so does an Asia - India division, and you can argue for a MidEast continent on the basis that the Arabian Peninula is connected to the other land masses only through a series of Ithmuses (or however you spell that).

As Che pointed out, India and Arabia (et al.) are usually called subcontinents due to their smaller size and/or underwaterness. Other than that I'll concede Eurasia is one continent, with pleasure. I didn't know Siberia was cut off, but sure, maybe we can call that a partially-attached dilinear subcontinent or something. Maybe there's mountains there as well, like the Himalayas cut off India. I dunno.

Anyway, thankyou for proving the point that a) landmass != continent, b) North and South America are separate, c) Africa is separate to Eurasia, d) you were wrong.

There is no greater impediment from moving between Asia and Europe than say Austria and Italy- in fact, there is less, as the HUns, Magyars, and Mongols showed.
