Thanks Paddy. I know we had no choice, but it sure disappoints me when someone leaves like this - and we are forced to drop a civ from a game. It really unbalances the game - and the drastic move of eliminating a civ clearly favours some of the remaining civs relative to others. IMHO, getting a replacement is a much better way to go, but we asked - and no luck.

So as you have said my friend, game on!

save to you.

Now this is a first for me.

I have received two "Paradise" saves. One from Flandrien, and one from Gamecube. I have not opened either - but GC's is obviously for the previous turn.

Thoughts? I would like to proceed with five, but Cube has to pick up his pace. Even posting here would have been nice.

Ljube is to now join to take over from Cube

you got the save, then play it.

not happy about this

the idea is to finish games

thus if people do not notify us, do not play, etc their civ is thus in decline

there are a lot of games on the go at this time... a lot more than this time 2 years ago

so in that I do not understand how / why it is so important that replacement players are so so necesary

you agreed to play on, then went and got someone else as well

my concern is that this doomed to be the slowest game I have ever started

lets just play the game ok

Well, the first impression is that his civilisation is not far from ruins.

The only reasonable option for me is to promptly become Paddy's vassal. I hope he will not choose to destroy me, because I can still be of some use to him.

Also, I see that you guys have a parallel line with only 4 players. I'll discuss with Paddy about this some time in the morning.

Coup de état in India.
Many years have passed since the Ganges river dried up. Former Indian leader GC64 failed to secure a new source of fresh water and the angry mob lynched him. I assumed command vowing to seek favour from Shiva that Ganges may one day be restored.

Ok Paddy. I will be argumentative.

I honestly belive that a replacement player is better than dropping a civ - for the reason mentioned above. Ljube is a very reliable player - and the game should speed up.

My main point is that the game editor tries to establish a balanced starting scnenario. If a civ is eliminated via gameplay - then so be it - and congrats to those who took the risks - to them the rewards. But when we simply zap a civ because the player is inattentive to quick play - or unable for whatever reason to play quickly - well, that, IMHO, introduces a serious unbalancing factor into the game. That civ's neighbours win big time; others do not.

Thus, my perefernce is to find a replacement player - and the best way to do that is to go hunting for one. That's my viewpoint.

Ljube - welocme to Paradise Island. May you live long and prosper - well, not really.

This might not be so obvious for a warmonger , but making Settlers to get more land is by far cheaper that doing it with units. When you kill a civ, its neighbours have a much easier time expanding than everyone else (in this case, me and Beta). Had this been a scenario without Settlers, or were we all neighbours of India, there would be no problem destroying that civ.

Yes indeed, I can understand that.

Yet that is not the game programme changing things. That is the actions of humans. The same as it is the actions of humans through deserting the game (sorry Cube) that led to it being retired.

Have there been no nations on the planet earth that have just dissapeared, did the other nations all stand up and say "no no that is not allowed to happen, as the earth will then be out of balance, some will then have more fresh air, and the clouds will scurry around some nations more than others, leading to the great rng to be all out of tilt?"

'Tis a game, Paddy. For the sake of the argument, let us assume the really big civs needed to be dismembered by neighbours and/or barbarians (which were one and the same, like for the Romans) to actually disappear.

Yeah mate it is a game

and with it all things should be allowed to have a chance to be tried...

I still see nothing that shows the game mechanics go all out of kilter when a civ is retired

What is to say that the game mechanics do not suck the loss of a civ up and move on

The game mechanics do not get out of kilter per se. They work like they always do. The geopolitical situation, OTOH, changes in a key stroke.

Anyways, thanks for being patient with me Paddy. And yes - Ljube is a solid PBEM player.
