By the way, I posted two questions while GMing the last game that weren't discussed and I think they should be before this one starts.
Double Deflector
A couple of games ago I sent 4 Nukes at Darkcloud who deflected to Jonny who deflected to Darkcloud. GM Smiley handled it by having Nukes #2 & 4 destroy Darkcloud cities, and numbers #1 & 3 deflected by Darkcloud to Jonny. Jonny then deflected Nuke #1 back to Jonny and Nuke #3 (#2 for Jonny) destroyed a city. Straightforward so far, but here is the difficult part. That Nuke #1 going back to Darkcloud was the 5th incoming nuke, so Smiley had it deflect back to Jonny again, where it was the 3rd incoming nuke to Jonny and deflected again to Darkcloud. For Darkcloud it was now the 6th incoming nuke and destroyed a city. At the time it was suggested by someone (Theben??) that the nuke should only have been deflected once by each deflector and it should have destroyed a Darkcloud city as the 5th Nuke to be aimed at Darkcloud. (However as the result was the same either way, this was not much of an issue at the time).
This past game EPW and Vlad Antlerkov similarly both Deflected to each other and Jonny sent 2 Nukes at EPW. The first nuke was deflected by EPW to Vlad while the 2nd nuke destroyed EPW's last remaining city. The second nuke arrived as Vlad 1st incoming nuke and was deflected back to EPW where it was the 3rd incoming nuke (though there were no cities left anyway) and deflected back to Vlad again. It was then Vlad's 2nd incoming nuke and destroyed his last remaining city. If the deflectors only work once, Vlad would have remained in the game, and unlike the first example, this would have had an effect on the game outcome.
While I handled this the same way Smiley did, do the players think this is the way it should be handled?
Double Spies
While this didn't come up, it easily could have, and as I am not sure how I would have dealt with it, I thought it best to clarify (it has probably come up in previous games, but I have not seen it and it is not in the rules).
Last game if Jonny had changed his rules slightly, both Hercules and Jonny would have had one city and a spy left on the final turn. If they had both sent 2 nukes and a spy at the other player (which would be a good strategy in my opinion), what would the spies do?
- both get through an accomplish their missions, in which case both players live another day
- cancel each other out with neither players spy succeeding, resulting in both sets of orders being completed (which in this example would have resulted in victory for the cockroaches).
Just to points that I think should be clarified.
Thanks,
* Sparrowhawk
