Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Here is a brief log for the additional 4 years that take me to 1904. They were pretty uneventful, apart from a small war with the Egyptians that gave us another city. I concentrated on building an attack force aimed at capturing Zimbabwe and bringing the Zulu bird back to Earth.

AD 1900

Persians give us invention (Monk will not be pleased). Rush 4 vet tanks, start 2 transports and start moving armour to ports.

AD 1901

Persians give us steam engine, and Egyptians declare war. Incite revolt in Elephantine for 1974. Get 170 and Steel. Get 800 for cease fire and another 800 for peace.

AD 1902

Persians give us iron working. Agree cease fire without payment with sioux. Zulus launch eta 1918.

AD 1903

Persians give us amphibious warfare but Sioux declare war.

AD 1904

Persians give us engineering.

PS I wonder if I should have changed the name of my save to distinguish it from Monk's? Oh well, too late now!

Good job...though I fail to see the value of getting unneeded tech through demands...to each his own. We will get fewer choices when we take a city if we have already drained their available junk techs. I really do not recommend getting GuerWar, to repeat.

I changed the d/l to apR_1904 to accomodate multiple saves of the same year and to ID which was yours.

I suspect we will like our own saves best because we are more familiar with that particular one and the thinking behind it. If nobody else chips in this might be a problem. I agree this will not be a quick finish (assuming the AI doesn't bury us at some point ). I do not think we are ready to get in an all out fight with Kelts or Zulu, but slowly picking off cities of the other AI along with an occassional Kelt is working for now.

The main advantage--I think--of my save is that a strike team is already assembled at Apoly and is 2 turns from taking Zimbabwe. I assume that Zulu cities are cranking out the Mil-units so it would be a good idea to slow them down sooner rather than later, just so we can survive the counter-strike.

I am glad that we are moving the game along.

Once you pointed out that there is likely to be a cash alternative to a cease-fire or peace-treaty offer I stopped taking techs. The various techs from the Persians were in response to a demand for tribute and I don't know how to tell them not to give certain techs. Unlike your save, I had no contact with the Persians, so I couldn't establish an embassy to find out which techs they had. Well that's my story anyway.

Good move. In case there are more entries, we might try adding names or initials - eg rjm_1904.sav

I agree that it is easier to understand the thinking behind our own saves, but in this case I don't think it is a difficult decision. Your save has us very close to discovering robotics. With an army of vet howies we could capture Zimbabwe without having to use nukes. Perhaps someone will post a save which makes the decision more difficult.

My thought (a modified version of what I was planning in my own save) is to wait until we discover robotics and then build about 8 vet howies. We could then send 4 or 5 transports loaded with vet spies, armour and howies against the Zulus. Our spy could bring down the walls in the closest Zulu city which we could then capture with the armour. This would give us a port into which we could move the remaining transports. The spies could then guide the howies (which now have 2 moves available) to attack Zimbabwe. With a significant force on the mainland, we could probably take out a few other cities as well.

There seems to be a complete lack of interest...which is a shame...but, that's the sit-rep. I am presently having more trouble than usual, so I don't know when I will be able to play again myself. That said, my intention is to try to finish this game in this lifetime. It (the game) is an interesting problem and I would like to see the way it ends. I still encourage others to give it a try. Chances are very good that we will learn a thing or two from the effort.
