To further clarify myself I'm recieving montly emails about the US from my uncle whos living in Baltimore. He has been writing editorials to the Baltimore Sun and has been many US papers USSR correspondent over the years. Living in Kyiev and Moscow for years and years kinda give him some authority over social analysis. Also he has some very cool spy stories to tell. Unfortunately he couldnt vote in the election this year since he still has a Finnish passport.

those are the numbers of people who might be being diagnosed with mental health disorders
and therefore getting the drugs
doctors don't give the drugs out to people they don't think might have a disorder

ok
so they think that there might be as many as 20%
they also assuredly think that some (probably most) are not being treated (I would think that most are not being treated)
therefore, the actual number of those getting treated is far less than 20%
and mexico and canada are none factors

SUV's are evil. I absolutely sympathize with the dude.
They should be banned. Those cars aren't made for everyday traffic ffs, they're tanks.
quote: In reality, only 5 percent of SUVs are ever taken off-road (1), and the vast majority of these vehicles are used for everyday driving. And there are a lot of them on the roads. In 1985, SUVs accounted for only 2 percent of new vehicle sales. (2). SUVs now account for one in four new vehicles sold(3), and sales continue to climb.
|
quote: The federal corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards set the fuel economy goals for new passenger cars at 27.5 miles per gallon (mpg). But under the law, SUVs are not considered cars - they are characterized as light trucks. Light trucks only have to achieve 20.7 mpg. It should be noted that this is an average for all light trucks, which is why it is possible to have SUVs on the road that only achieve 12 mpg. In fact, some SUV, like the massive Ford Excursion, are so large that they no longer qualify as "light trucks," and are not subject to any kind of fuel economy standards. |

"As use of SSRIs becomes more commonplace, some mental health experts have tried to sound a cautionary note. They worry that a growing population of Americans is medicating what are really just normal variations in temperament."

"Over the last twenty years, the increase in the number of people using antidepressants has reached an all time high. According to one study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association the percentage of Americans being treated for depression more than doubled from the late 80's to the late 90's. Due to a higher awareness of symptoms and treatments, researchers found patients were almost five times more likely to be treated with antidepressants in 1997 as they were back in 1987. Undoubtedly, that number is even higher in 2004."

"Most people who seek treatment for depression would not meet the entry criteria for a study of antidepressant drugs yet these same patients often get prescriptions for the very same medications, researchers said Thursday.
The study has some psychiatrists raising questions about possible overuse of antidepressants.
Dr. Mark Zimmerman, of Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, said in general, study criteria would exclude 86 percent of depressed patients treated in a typical clinical practice."
