Um...as far as I can see, this game is far from over. The position is sharp with good chances for either side.I have the pawn but that is not a win.In fact I may have to return it soon.

Kcbob, you're right. Let's make it like a boxing federation. Here's my propositions of rules :

a)Every game played on the Apolyton Chess Club entitles the winner to be crowned King/Queen of the World Civchess Federation (WCC).
b) The King/Queen immediatly defends his/her title against a new challenger.
b2) He/She plays as black.
b3) The new challenger is the first new Apolytiner to step up.
b4) If there's no new challenger, an old one can step up again.
d) Every moves of the game are played on the Apolyton "Other Games" forum.
d2) There is no time limit, but the players try to play at least a move a day.
d3) Everybody is free to comment on the game, but giving moves to one of the player can result in being declared inelegible for the WCC title.
d4) A arbitration court of three people rules. The three people are chosen before the start of a WCC game. Their decisions, taken at the majority of two, cannot be appealed.

Here it is, what do you think ? I'm afraid the english must be improved.
According to my proposition, I should be the next challenger, playing white against the winner of Smash-Carolus.

Tell you what. If the current reigning champion, Carolus Rex, and the ahead-by-his-own-admission challenger, Smash, agree with it, I'll be happy to crush you. *note the false sense of superiority*
Then again, if you beat me, I'll have to go back to playing my sister.

By the way Kcbob, have you noticed all those world champions or challenger whose name began by K ?
Karpov, Kortchnoi, Kasparov, Kamsky, Kramnik, Kcbob ...
I ought to change my name to Julius Krenzaida.

Yes, but... the greatest of all time, Bobby Fisher, would suggest you change to Julius Frenzaida.

*edit* I just noticed my name in your list. Are you talkin' to me??

BTW. I think your list of "rules" is excellent. I would suggest one small change. Whoever is the reigning champion should be given their choice of which side to play. The "spoils of victory", so to speak. Ya think?

Yes Kcbob,I was talking to you !
Fischer was a great player indeed, but to say that he was the best of all time is open to questionning. First of all, I think that Morphy was the greatest american player that ever lived. But Julius Mrenzaida doesn't ring good.
For the rules, I am glad you agree with me. The questions of colors is just a minor detail.
I would like to hear the opinion of the future champion, either Carolus or Smash.
Are they to busy butchering themselves to have noticed our little conversation "en apparté".

Very difficult to choose the greatest. All three mentioned by you guys are definitely on my list, but picking one of them...

I agree with Smash, challenger picking side first gets my vote.

No problem at all (ISP), Smash. However, I can't post my next move tonight. Earliest tomorrow (Saturday) night.

All that I can tell is that Morphy was a gentleman.
I hope you’ve never heard Fischer talking in the nineties and I wonder how one could escape noticing that Kasparov’s behavior is not always 100% correct. I witnessed it myself.

Oups, I just happened to notice I forgot something VERY important in my proposition of rules. What happens if the game is a draw ?
a2) if there is a draw, the champion retains his title.
b2) the challenger chooses the side he wants to play with.
“a2” is logical if one looks at the history of Chess Championships and “b2” gives a little something to the challenger. But think that the opponents of Lasker had to provide a huge amount of money ...
Do you all agree with the new rules ?

Full PM-box? Change here!

Ya the problem that can arise is 1 player being very strong with white pieces and winning or drawing every game ala Karpov.

Perhaps a multi-win champ should be given a return match.Perhaps a candidates cycle should run.Maybe it should be the 1st to win 10 games....oops...now I sound like Fischer

Position-correct?

C'mon let's remain modest. We're all no Karpov, or is he one of you but whishes to remain anonymous. He like history a lot, so why not civ2. Too much civplaying would explain his elo drop of the last few years.

Sorry for the last post with my remarks in the quote !
Call it a blunder.
If the challenger can choose the colors, it gives him a little edge. Besides to try to draw a game early on is a sure way to lose ! It's true at any level of play, even for our highness.
As draw can happen, I think my rule is correct. But if you have a better practical idea, I'd buy it happily.

Sorry for the long absence!

No ISP problems, no broken leg, I've just been trying to find a nice attack combo getting grey hairs in the process. White always had a saving move, at least I couldn't find The Killing Move...

Not too excited about Rbd8, but my options seemed limited. Will be interesting to hear your suggestions after the game.

I'll give you my opinion at the end of the game. For now, it wouldn't be fair.
Kcbob, I've already send it at your e-mail adress.
It is an interesting game.
By the way, Kasparov has lost again. He must win twice in the last 6 games (so only 3 times as white) to regain his title. A new era is about to begin ...
At least I hope, cause the situation of top class chess was not healthy (not that I was directly concerned).
