White wins easily.My mistakes in the opening left me terribly weak on black squares.If this were over the board I might press on,but in this format it would only be an excercise in futility.The magnitude of mistake I need is just not going to happen.Congratulations to Julius who played skillfully and accurately.Good luck in the next match.

If the Silverdragon is ready and wants to go first that is fine with me. If I'm the next challanger then I offer the white pieces to my esteemed opponent, Julius. I'm usually available on the net 0100 - 0630 New York City time Monday - Friday and through out the day Saturday and Sunday.

I expect to be unavailable the 24th - 27th and back the 28th, however. I'm working over the New Year's holiday and so will be back in town.

Carolus, what would you try in this position ?
I didn't see any reasonnable move for black !
He has no plan to improve his position. The pawns on c5 and f5 cannot be defended and with his huge pressure white can force the exchange of all pieces to reach an easy winning ending. I shall play h4, b3 and then maybe Rd6, R1d5 and so on before grabbing the pawns in the most favorable situation.
Smash and I haven't seen anything black could do against this.

Smash, I have not too much time now but I would like your opinion on some moves I had seen for black and you elected not to play. I'm going to post them this week-end, in a new topic I think.
You made a mistake in the opening, but it looks to me that it costed you more in your confidence that it did on your position.
And yes, thanks for the congratulations, I think that I played a few nice moves (14 Qa3 especially) and solid other ones. I probably reserved all my blunders for the next game !

Ok, Ken. I propose that if Silver Dragon has not challengend the champion (it's me now) before this sunday morning (17th of december 2000), 10am Central European Time (4am in New York, I imagine), I will play against you.
But have you read the rules that were proposed before the start of this game, in page 1 of this thread ?
The challenger chooses the color but in case of a draw, the champion retains his title.
Do you really want to leave me that opportunity. Or are you some strong GM cat lurking in the backyard to play and have fun with a poor little mouse like me?

How about 25... Qxb2 (check mate)?

Seriously, I had no particular move in mind. I was just surprised. This is not to say that Smash could have made a draw or that he missed a very good move in the current position. It was a sudden end, that's all.

BTW, Carolus. I would have moved Qxb2+ Resigns. Nothing like a good "spite check" with which to end a game.

Sorry kcbob I should have played that for ya.I felt no spite though.Only agony.

It may have seemed sudden especially after Julius returns his queen to a3.You might ask why resign now if you didn't before?Well,I had been close to rez for awhile.

Every line I looked at,white could play simply into a won endgame.I went as far as move 37 with 25....f4 hoping for a bail out move but there was no way out of this one.

Obviously,there are/were better moves that I could have made.The problem with this is you don't they are better moves until its too late

And, yes, after the opening, more than once I thought "what am I missing?".I got rattled abit.I did settle in but too much advantage had been given.

And...Julius is pretty good

Julius,

I was being serious when I offered you the white pieces. I honestly don't know what my current rating would be either ELO or USCF. My last published rating was in 1973 and was about 1150 - 1200 on the then current USCF system. As I mentioned on a discussion board at the tournament site that I use, considering a draw to be neither side has the material to mate the other, I only draw with the white pieces in tournament play. Perpetual check and stalemates I get with either color. For some reason, I not sure why, that seem to bend a lot of people out shape and really ruffle their feathers. Lately most of my games have been running into the 40 - 50 move territory, unless there is a severe mismatch between players.
