arcades are real popular in japan.

If I see an arcade, I'll always plunk quaters into Karate Champ or a game of Fast Ms Pacman (you know the one where Ms. Pacman goes really fast but the ghosts do not).

And, BTW, I love the mermaid. Awesome.

For Christmas, I got a little arcade thingy that plugs into my television. It's bascially a joystick on top of a little box and it'll play PacMan, Dig Dug, Galaxian, Bosconian, and Rally X. Those last two I've never heard of, perhaps they were produced for the little box I received.

In Reply To Mechanical Arcade Games:

I never particularly liked them.

although I can't say my city is short of arcades.

Every single casino just about has an arcade in my city. It's provided as a way for parents with kids to get into the casinos. Just drop the kids into an unsupervised arcade and then throw all their money into slot machines

Some of the family orientated hotels have fairly large arcades. Like circus circus.

I have never been a big fan though. I was really too poor as a kid to play.

And as an adult, they seemed to costly. Most were action game that I wasn't good at. I'd only get like a minute of gameplay out of a quarter. That doesn't seem cost effective.

Which is why I'll play Karate Champ or Fast Ms. PacMan only. I rock at those games!

really - never played with an abacus , and you call yourself a gamer! shame on you

I used one at school in maths classes i seem to remember - i was in wales at the time though

The sit-down Star Wars arcade game remains my all time favourite(just pips Battle-Zone) - i would really try and use the 'force' to help me through, the sounds/music just sucked me into the experience

The hardest part was finding a place to download warez for the abacus

Seriously, I did once have a "calculator" that was completely mechanical, used a stylus, all you could do was add and subtract, I bet Spaced has a picture of it though

The early TI's, the favorite game was to take your calculator, and do some calculations while saying, if so and so many arabs kill so and so many Israelis, and so and so many Israelis kills so and so many arabs, for so and so many days, who wins - you then turned the calculator upside down and showed that it spelled out "Shell Oil".

Somethings dont change, huh
