quote: I doubt that. I'm on the CFL site and 2004 season had PLENTY of blowouts. In fact, it was very rare to see the week where 1 game, out of the 4 played every week (ie, 25% of games every week), wasn't a blowout! |
you need to redefine blowout fin the cfl, 21 points isn't that much, Therew have been many ocasions whereteams have come back from much larger defecites in the llast couple of minutes.
quote: Too much offense, not enough defense. |
thats funy, why is it that the three strongest teams(TToronto, Montreal and Vancouver) are the ones with strong defences, and the team with the best offence finished second last in the league?
quote: The 3 downs make it more boring, IMO (reduces the strategic consequences of one more down). |
Are you crazy? three downs means that every down counts. Three downs means that evry play is important, it turns a knockdown into half a stop instead of just an unimportant play.

21 points is a pretty good margin. That's 3 TD scores (at least). Obviously the team did not come back from the 3 scores and may have been more outplayed than that. What is a blowout? 4 TD scores? 5 TD scores?
Don't be silly.

Let's see, you have 4 QBs who've thrown for over 5,000 yards. That's almost half of the league. With a good number of running backs that get over 1500 yards. Yep, that's WAY too much offense.
Stong defenses... as opposed to letting everyone score on every play that is?

So, by adding a 4th down, means that one down doesn't count . Are you in 2nd grade or something? Each down counts with 4 downs. Perhaps it is because we have more talented players, but a 'knockdown' shouldn't end a drive by itself.
And with only 2 downs before punt or FG, you can't get those sustained drives which consist for running for 3, 4 yards every play. Those amazing drives that eat up the clock and destroy the defense. What a shame losing that is .

Plato's got it. Just looked it up: Ed Walsh, 1.82 ERA.
Bob Gibson ranks #90. So I was a little off.

Hmmm.
It's gotta be a point guard, someone who took a lot of risks. Almost certainly someone with a lot of assists. I don't think it's Stockton...
I'll say Isiah Thomas.

Is it John Stockton then?

5, any less then that and you have a decent chance of coming back within the last three minutes.

No, but it means a sack or short run still leaves you with options

you still have them, they just consist of 7 or 8 yard passes instead.

quote: Decent chance of coming back from 4 TDs down in the last three minutes?! And you wonder why the NFL has far more viewers!! What sillyness! |
Well, you have a decent chance if you're the Indianapolis Colts, but for most football teams, you're right, it's a bit out of the question
As for 3 downs vs. 4 downs, 4 downs is the best for the NFL game.
Let's consider that fields are far more wide open in the CFL. I mean, if Martz was a head coach in the CFL, his 15 yard out routes would be the equivilent of a 5 yard hook. So, you only need 2 downs to make it worthwhile, otherwise people like Martz could have Chris Chandler wth a massive passer rating.
As for 4 downs, the NFL game is different. Things aren't as stretched out, and you need to attack the inside with more developed plays because there is less room for error. 1st and 2nd down are your wildcard downs. Do what you like, conservative or aggressive. Because of the tighter fields, you need to be less aggressive in order to keep turnovers to a minimum. Ball control, few mistakes, and intelligent play against the opponent is the key to a successful NFL drive, and because the NFL is inherently more conservative than the CFL, you will see closer games, and less scoring, because there is less room for error.
