My Brother-in-law is down for a few days, so we been out for a meal and drinks, now home to watch some footy, and allows me to play sone Civ. Thank God I had a few long ice cold beers before decimating a whole civilization

I took a calculated risk. The city went down for free. You had just over 5% chances to actually win the fight that followed (regular 2-defense 2-move unit defending against veteran 1-move 1-attack unit). Like I said - extremely lucky. Oh well, s#it happens.

The whole combat system in civ3 is broken. Once I managed to win so many battles with one of my warriors (two of these battles against spears in desperate situations) that he produced a Great Leader. Then, knowing the AI won't attack an army, I made an army of all my offensive units in this desperate city (this elite warrior, another regular warrior and a vet archer). This army managed to kill the attackers around this city and later became the instrument of their doom.



Nothing similar ever happened to me in civ 2. I think they would have done a much better job of civ 3 if they had kept the hit points / fire power system from civ 2.
