I'd also like to idly point out that this article is ass, and Beagle/Spotlight/Google Desktop Search/MSN Desktop Search are nothing like what WinFS is to offer, and the author doesn't know what he's talking about.

Beagle is comparable to Spotlight and MSN Desktop Search -- MSN Desktop Search is already out, Spotlight will be out next month. Saying they're beating MS to market with Beagle is a flat-out lie.

Is now a good time to point out that Beagle and F-Spot were developed using .NET?

WinFS was promised in Windows 2000. Let's see what they deliver before canonizing it.

This has nothing to do with feature dates, and everything to do with design functionality. Beagle is comparable to MSN Desktop Search, and not WinFS.

Saying Beagle is comparable to WinFS is either an ignorant journalist or someone willfully lying. I'm betting on the latter, because IMHO the Open Source folks are just as good as bullshit and FUD as the corporate PR people, the same kind of people they claim to hate so much.
