Veres - hope you end up OK. I would have been married to a different lady than my current wife except 20 years ago she was raped on campus. She wouldn't even report it because she said if her dad or I found out who did it, we would kill the S*B.

What was sad I knew jack about the effects on women - I just knew something was very wrong, because we were just on the edge of being intimate, it had gotten very hot a few times, and suddenly she was like a zombie. I wish now I knew what I didn't then, with counseling and the like we might have made it. I succumbed to her withdrawal and finally gave up. :sad: I hope you are getting counseling and have good support.

I'm sure all of us prefer to live in a society where people can't go around punishing people however they see fit. If the court was corrupt I could feel sorry for the guy, but this person was going to get fair punishment for his crime and the father had no right to do what he did.

No offense, by any means, but that's not the question you ask when we think about justice system. If we ask that question, we have DP for every crime, and worse.

The way you .. rank punishments is not supposed to be based on what the victim wants. It has to be more objective, than subjective, yet it has to .. have a kind of balance, where the victim isn't 'screwed' either. This means, that the punishments can't be so low, that vigilantism prevails.

But I agree, that when it comes to violent crimes of any kind, punishments should be rather higher than lower.

The probem with an eye for an eye is that you still lose your eye. Unless you're advocating taking his eye and using it as your own, which wouldn't be that ddifficult, medically-speaking, but would present unfortunate problems if the color, size, etc. didn't match.

Otherwise the only real way to make an eye for an eye work is to make it pre-emptive, and get their eyes before they get ours.

I concur THe problem with an eye for an eye is that we end up with a world full of eyeless ppl.

Me, I am for the dp and other violent retaliation. However, I am also for addressing the solution and not just the problem. Punishments address only the problem.

Well you didn't figure it out but I'll answer your earlier "question" aswell anyway. Afterall, what is aftermath if not an delayed ass kicking just performed by someone else, the society if they disagree with you. Disagree is the point here. If society thinks I shouldn't do something it doesn't mean I am wrong. Not only that, society as a whole might not even disagree with me but the law might, that would kick my ass pretty well too. Also, let's assume if the law was something to the effect "if you are gettiing robbed etc you can beat their ass or kill them or whatever", if someone sees a you in a fight how do you prove it was the other guy who is was "in the wrong"?
Not liking people seeing you do stuff has very little to do with your own morals rather than someone elses. Nothing to do with what you were asserting.

Infact I bet you agree with me here remembering that abortion poster thread and how the posters were making people sick. Unless you think you should always do whatever you feel is right no matter what the consequenses for you are.
