Lets = permits, allows (among other definitions, like rents, etc.)
Let's = a contraction of "let us"
So in this case, you would use "let's".

many english words come from french. In french there is the name "christian" who does not mean christian since in french christian is "cretien" (sp?). So i don't think it's anglophile or anything. Just one of the many loans english took from french culture.
