I knew a guy who told me that the Liberals would be toast in the last election - at best it would be a Conservative majority, at worst a minority. He told me that the line in the sand had finally been crossed by the ruling Liberals, that Canadians were mad and this time they were going to make the Liberals pay by taking away the one thing Liberals care about....power. I told him (while the Conservatives were still leading in the polls) that I thought it would be a Liberal majority, something he scoffed at. If the Liberals somehow pulled off any kind of victory he informed me he'd have to leave Canada to get away from the sheer stupidity.

Well the worst case scenario is a Conservative minority, but luckily they won’t be able to do too much damage since I expect the NDP to make some gains, and the Bloc will sweep Quebec. Hell, the Bloc might be able to gain enough seats in Quebec to form a minority government in coalition with the NDP, but too bad they’ve said that they wouldn’t form the government even if they had the opportunity. Gilles Duceppe is the best federal politician we have, and it’s kind of sad that this is the case seeing as he’s a separatist. Ah well, it just speak volumes about the decrepit state of Canadian politics.

Correct, unfortunately.

I have to wonder about how much of his appeal outside of Quebec (which is considerable from the buzz) is due to him not having to pander to any special interests outside of Quebec and so he can just be honest about what a mess we're in and talk about the real issues, not those his party foists upon him.
