DanS, did you check my first link? It seems greenhouse gasses may be all that's saving us. The second link is about global warming on Mars. Maybe there's a solar system wide, sun induced global warming?

The third link had some amazingly skimpy bikinis, but it doesn't work.

DanS... Completely different experience in Scotland. I can't believe it but I actually got sunburnt here. In April. It's not exactly a mediterranean climate here, but it's pleasant enough to sit out in a t-shirt. Fantastic.

At least you got a dry heat, Diss. I used to think a dry heat was great, but now I feel dusty when the humidity is too low.

I've lived in Florida and Mississippi. For the most part it's great. But it sucks when you are doing any kind of physical work. I sweat so much it gets on my hands and my hands slip off the tools I'm using. It gets in my eyes when I'm trying to work on something.

Not that I don't sweat out here. Just last summer I was working on the roof (in the morning when it was cool even) and I was sweating so bad it was getting in my eyes.

So don't think we don't sweat out here in the desert. Just not as much.

Technically we sweat just as much and even more, but you don't feel it as it evaporates so quickly.

This can be dangerous as people don't realize how much water they are losing. And if they don't drink any fluids... They are in for a fall.

Weatherman are horrible!!

Just yesterday they were saying it would be sunny today. But we have cloudy skies with a chance of rain.

You'd think we could predict the weather by now.

No.... we don't need anymore global warming. Not where I am anyway. The way things are going we'll only have a week or two of genuine autumn (not that we get any genuine seasons anyway.... just a really hot period peaking in Jan/Feb and a slightly colder period around July... and apart from the usual down pour in mar/apr the rain is pretty much unpredictable.
Plus we've got that damned el nino thing...

Hey, it's Theban! Spare a thought also for the poor american scientists who must constantly convert between the two because the scientific community in other countries uses a modern system of measurement.

What I would give for a 19 degree day right now....

I've always wondered about the relationship of temperature to brain activity... I heard somewhere that beethoven used to regularly dunk his head in a bucket of ice whilst composing... and I definitely seem more mentally active during winter.

actually, warm-bloodedness evolved as an adaptation to increase activity levels, the abillity to live in cold climates was a serindipidious bonus.

Sure, all this crap we put in the air is a major factor in global warming, but other factors may contribute. Otherwise why would Mars be coming out of an ice age? Too many outboard motorboats in the canals?

Coincidence, the warming on Mars is probably a result of the same kind of precessional and tilt cycles that cause the glacial-interglacial cycle on earth. We are in a stage in the cycles where we should be slowly cooling toward the next glaciation (indeed we had been untill 100 years ago), not rapidly warming.

American science uses the metric system. I don't even know any formulas for science using imperial.

No, no, no Being warm blooded means your body temperature stays constant, more or less. Which means your brain's temperature is about the same whether it is cold or hot outside.

Within certain limits, of course.
