And yes, it will be a buggy pre-Xmas release. That's how it works.

Well, for those willing to pay twice or triple, they can buy the inevitable sequels/expansions and have the 'finished' product in the end and about the same timescale.

The rest can start to mod happily a year sooner that way.

shame that they do not just do the job right.

if they came to my bar, I am sure they would not like my girls to give them a glass with 1/3rd beer and the rest water... then tell them they can buy the rest of the beer in 5 minutes....

we sell beer... 1st time, 2nd time... last time

finished product.

no matey, not at all. here in Australia we have special pools that God created called billabongs.

a billabong is a place where iced cold beer flows up from the great Dwarven Breweries that are to be found in the centre of the earth.

most of the oldest pubs in Australia were built over a billabong, thus cutting down the need to transport the product.

what we had a problem with was the cloth needed to dry the gut glassware that God had waiting for us in special "Heaven Class" cases when the first settlers arrived. Yeah getting good cloth certainly took a while. Here I must admit that various patches were to be found throughout our first century on this island of paradise.

so I may be a tad tough on these programmers and various support and operational staff that are required to take a concept, sit at a computer in an air conditioned office for an unknown number of work hours and write code. nor am I considering that they have the ability to eat good food, get a pay check and play sports, ride bikes, go skiing, sit in pubs, watch the Dodgers, surf the net, play the never to be completed Civ III, assist in aid centres for the handicapped, watch movies on massive screens at multiplexs, even enjoy a nice cup of cocoa.

yeah my expectations of when I go to the shop and pay my money to the bloke at the counter for my next fix of Civ are certainly unreasonable...

fancy expecting it would be ready to play and not need a patch - opps my error.

I remember when I first bought Civ 3 on the first day that it was out here in Germany. I am not saying it was a perfect game but I never regreted buying it immediately and I will do the same for Civ IV and ....CIV X and all the others in between, if I am still alive

Yes, I remember that day too. I rushed to the game store to get the game, finally. I'll buy Civ IV as soon as it's available - and, honestly, I don't do that for many games...

Of course I'll rush to the game store to buy Civ4... Civ is the only game that has that power over me...

Now, if they would release SMAC 2, I'd be camping in front of the store a week before the release...

The latest from EB Game to me.

Dear EBgames.com Customer,

Thanks for pre-ordering from EBgames.com! As an added benefit to ordering from us, we’ll keep you informed of ship date changes. We are writing to let you know that we have changed the projected ship date for CIVILIZATION IV PC to 11/14/2005. The publisher did not provide us with a specific date so this is our best estimate only and should not be considered firm. We will update this date again as we receive new information. As always, EBgames.com will not charge your credit card until we ship your order.

To check the status of your order, please visit https://www.ebgames.com/ebx/myaccou...tus/default.asp

If you need further assistance, you can reply to this e-mail or give us a call at 1-877-432-9675 (internationally at 1-702-614-1570). We're here seven days a week from 8:00 AM to Midnight (EST).

Thank you for choosing EBgames.com.

Best Regards,

EBgames.com Customer Service Team

About release dates:

EBgames.com works tirelessly with game publishers to ensure accurate release dates on our site. Occasionally, publishers decide to delay production to improve quality or add new features. Sometimes dates move forward; more often they move back and frequently they get changed more than once.

If a game is scheduled for release far in the future, the publisher may not even give us a date. In those cases we rely on the collective wisdom of our buying staff to estimate a date based on their knowledge of the industry and the publisher's history.

We guarantee that we will always post the best information provided by publishers. We know that you want that hot new game yesterday and we want to be the company that gets it to you quicker than anyone else.

Got spare money?

I find it funny that they moved the date a single day. I'm going to go ahead and take the 17th since I don't think that anyone else has it.

Some one asked about the Tuesday release thing and the answer is that most video games do not have what is called a "Hard Street Date" they can be put up for sale as soon as the product is available. However some games, most recently madden 2006, do.

I work at a best buy and once we have information from the publisher we get a date in our inventory system (which is still subject to change) but it isn't in there yet. My guess is that Take2 isn't giving Firaxis a must deliver by date, or they are flexible with it.

Though I Firaxis prefers pre-Christmas releases it is not alway more profitable in the industry. Usually there are just as many releases in January as there are in November and December. A January release when you know it's coming means that the younger crowd will save Christmas money for a game that they know is right around the corner. Not to mention that Fall winter releases come with a lot of competition as September usually has a lot of releases as well (back to school and all, we all need a reason to avoid doing homework).

How long have they been working on the game ? Has it been about the same time as Civilization 3? If it has then we know that there will be problems but most should be miner. I just hope its not something that is put off till a add on which is not right . Patches are ok as all games need at least two or three anyhow .

I think they started Beta like well over a year ago, possibly even two years but I'm not 100%. I believe the project was started at about the same time Conquests was being worked on.

What really takes time to make is the fancy stuff like the graphics. But for AI and rules testing, they can do it with any piece of graphic they have available.

They confirm november all the time in any interview they do.
There's no reason to work another year on it.
Firaxis has been working on this babe for over 2 years. They've been playing multiplayer games from over 1,5 years already.

There's no reason to be afraid it will fail like civ3 (strange I still play a failed game 4 years after it's release, but ok. much people apparantly don't like it)

civ3 had 2 major problems:
- the design team left, including the lead designer, halfway the project.
- it was build on old game engines. civ4 is being build from scratch.

Of course the game may still suck or fail Though it's not like: Civ3 didn't do it for me, maybe civ4 won't do it either.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

well I'm bored of my civ3 game I started last night.

Some difficulty levels I get smashed at, while if I go one easier I completely dominate. Last night was the latter. I'm at the beginning of the industrial age, but I doubt I'll finish.

Yeah the world settings were a major factor. Archipelago (smallest island size). I was lucky to get a decent sized land mass and the ability of my curraghs/galleys to reach 2 civs and trade techs from them.

I also chose warm and wet (instead of warm and arid like I usually do), but I was still lucky and got all desert. Yeah I prefer desert. Large world, average age.

I guess with these world settings I could go one difficulty level higher. maybe 2.

If you're playing with the island setting instead of the continents setting, it's almost always boring. I choose the smallest continents and it's pretty good usually.
