I took a bi-polar person and gave them a deal on rent in my duplex. I frequently went to visit her and even took her and her kids to Six Flags Great America. Gave her advice and just generally helped her out and set her on the right path. She paid me back by burning down my duplex. I generally don't help out anymore...

Dolores and I are putting a neighbor's kid through college in the Phils. We also do things for the extended family there. The family have lots of kids that will be college age soon. I gotta get that casino job! Btw, that kid, Mario, has 9 brothers and sisters. His sister will be coming up on college age soon. If anyone wants to help her I can give contact info. Cost you $20 to $30 a month.

Lots of community stuff goes on there. For instance we scrape our plates into a bucket. Every day a kid comes around and collects the stuff from buckets from every house. The kid feeds it to their family pig...

We invited the local people over for bingo and fed them while there. That way the poor in the area got help and didn't feel embarrassed.

Lots of little stuff like that.

Tired of ads?

I actually do some community work once a week, and it's very rewarding. I just keep that kinda stuff private. Doing community work is a cornerstone of my life and now that I'm back into it, I can't imagine not doing it. The hardest part is getting started, but once you set aside the time, for some reason you'll find you have MORE time in the long run.

Good for you Mister Fun for giving back, you are going to find many good things will come from your deeds.

I would, but I'm already doing that for someone.

I would like to do a one time donation though if you have something for that.

Well thanks, but right now I'm talking about doing what I mentioned in the OP -- it's a matter of juggling the other responsibilities I already have, so that I can put my words into action.

Yeah, getting started is the hardest part, but once you get into it, those other responsibilities well seem easy to balance.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Thanks MrFun, but Dolores and I don't want to make a big deal out of it. Though we have in the past here it kinda just snowballed. Actually the Poly House we blame on Ted for sending the first $200. Anyway, Dolores and I just do what we do and if someone asks, like Ted just did, then we take it further if they want. There's alot of need and no safety net. Kids kids and more kids...

I do charity work, though I'm not sure whether it would count as community involvement, if you mean the local community. I work for AIESEC, a student organisation that aims to build cultural understanding by sending young graduates on international work placements. At the moment I'm organising a project to send 10-15 people to Romania to get high school students involved in civic education, teaching them about citizenship, debating and encouraging them to become politically aware, given that it doesn't have the best voting record and is joining the EU in 2007.

I'm also a peer supporter (student counsellor), though that doesn't entail too much.
