hey!

Nah, I didn't forget you, vulture. But I'd like to keep it vague and thank everyone at once, instead of risking to forget a few of our members. It's the whole that makes GS, and I'm very thankful for that.

Mentioning me is scarcely worth the effort. Given my near-total lack of involvement in this game, I could be on the GS's Olympic "standing around doing nothing" team. (Heck, I could probably be the captain!)

This explanation/ apology may be irrelevant now that the game is over, but my general absence from this team was the result of a couple facts:

1. As I think I mentioned in another post somewhere, I became a first-time father in December. Between brutal hours at work and preparing for my son's birth, the second half of last year was pretty hectic. Something had to give: sadly, Civ and Poly were close to the top of the list. Since then, although I've left work, I've been taking care of "Small Stranger" so I still have no free time!!

2. I've never played a civ game against a human (or humans) before. Beating/ outthinking the AI is one thing; doing it to experienced human players is quite another. You all are much more experienced in these types of games; my hope was to watch and learn.

3. The core group of players here on this team are quite frankly incredible. There was, ultimately, very little I could add. I'm terrible at micromanagement, which is clearly much more important in MP than SP. (In fact, I've often thought that there should be an AU course on micromanagement, but I can't figure out how to structure one.) Given the fabulous generals we have here as well (Theseus, for one), you really didn't need my input on tactical/ military decisionmaking.

4. I always made it a habit of reviewing the decisions/ moves you all were making and can only think of one or two cases where I would have disagreed with the decision made. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think they would have made a difference.

This post is going on forever, so let me just say "Thank you" for offering me a position on this team. Given the crappy starting position we appear to have had and the (IMHO) "questionable" victory that has been declared, GS played this game better than anyone. We may not have won, but I'm proud to have been associated with this group.
