Suffering from ads?

Snobbery? Maybe in Australia.

It simply balls down to a personal preference - do you want a game with competition for the ball or a game without it?

Er no, the main idea is to avoid the opponent by skilful running and well timed passes. What you are talking about is straight running aka "hitups" by forwards to gain field position for the late set scoring plays in each set of 6.

There's definitely snobbery over here. Many media outlets fail to even report it, despite attendances of 20000+ and yet devote regular six page spreads to union. It's snobbery because it's a northern sport.

also because its linked with the grammar school system and the league broke away from union because the league players wanted to be paid to play when this was considered ungentlemanly.

I'll watch Castleford when they are on tele but I've never really got into it as a game.

Rugby Union I really enjoy but League just doesn't do it for me. It's too stop start, I know Union breaks down a lot but it's not the same.

Neither of them are a patch on football (soccer) though, obviously.

My cultural tastes are British, American, French and Indian. Most Australians source a great deal of their culture from overseas... but that's not to say we don't have culture here. It's just, in my opinion, parochial and boring.

And an Australian and a Soccer fan are telling me Union still has a problem with snobbery, is anti-Northern (lame PA, very lame) and deeply associated with Grammar schools?

Gentlemen you are living a quarter century in the past at the very least. Your comments are as anachronistic as a Union fan arguing that League is only watched by old men in flat caps!

Oh on a subsequent reading it appears PA meant that the media is snobbish - can't say I have noticed that as the BBC has endless League coverage when it has sod all Union on these days.

And beer drinking is for Brits.

As a crowd drawing sport Union is entirely on subscription TV (Sky). The Lions bits on the Beeb are scraps cast off by Sky when they are finished with them.

Only bits of league are on Sky - the unvalued tournaments (e.g Challenge Cup) all get shown on the BBC.

League moved it's season to summer because it was dying trying to compete with Football and Union in the winter. Crowds are currently growing - but it isn't in the robust health PA might like you to believe.

Some of what League is doing is frankly a little laughable - witness the presence of Toulouse in the cup competition. It's an artificial team stacked with Aussies and Brits - so who are the League boys trying to fool?

union - kick off - mall collapses - the play breaks down - scrum - play breaks down - someone kicks the ball out - play breaks down - stoppage while they line up - ball isn't thrown in straight - stoppage - do it again - everyone line up again - someone gets the ball and kicks it out again - start again after a stoppage..... that's the first 5 minutes and so on for 80 minutes.
