Well I think this should be dependent on the frequency of guesses. I remember older threads we open for a longer period of time, but the guessing activity was much higher. In fact most guesses came in within the first 24 hours, I just updated my list and added only five guesses, that makes now 42 guesses. Not much in addition. So I think when the guessing activity is low, then we can close. So let's see what the next days bring.

Besides, it is all in good fun. People exposed to this previously have their chuckle over understanding this "in joke" and then reveal to the person the history behind it. They get their answer, they get in on the joke, they even get to guess the next round. It is hardly mean or unkind.

The competition creates a better sense of community by its nature. One possible initiation is through being caught out asking the question, but I'm sure people also learn from the threads and keep quiet sometimes.

It's all a laugh, and no one who has been caught out has been anything but a good sport, even Tehban.

Since I can't lock threads (shame really) it's pretty much up to Ming. He is however, (spam permitting) usually happy to close it when requested. I usually go for around a week, which would take us to Tuesday, with PM guesses being allowed whilst the thread is still visible on the first page.
