I think the best video adaptation of somebody tripping is when Lisa drank the water in the amusement park ride.

Labyrinth, the movie, stars David Bowie and his Dancing Crotch.

Oh, and Jennifer Connelly. But I saw it after I saw Requiem for a Dream, so it was wierd seeing a nude heroin ho married to the Gladiator being a kid trying to find her younger sibling.

Oh and another Pacino drug fest- 'Carlito's Way' .

Not to mention: 'Superfly'. Aaahh, the morally superior 70s, when drug dealers could be heroes.

The only one of these that I haven't seen is Requiem for a Dream and Traffic. I have to check those two out.

No one has mentioned Sid and Nancy. That was pretty good. Gary Oldman was spot on as usual.

I watched Tron many years ago when I was still on the dating scene. The young lady I watched it with stated that we should watch it after smoking pot, or better yet taking some LSD. Since I was subject to drug testing (and still am after 23 years) this was a non-starter.

I watched SLC on a crappy VHS the first time I saw it, and during the acid scene it the park the player had tracking problems. I thought at the time that it wasn't the player at all but just a really brilliant way of portraying the drug, like something that you can't work around that mixes up your understanding of reality. Then I saw the movie again and wasn't quite as blown away. Still if I ever make a movie and have a tripping scene I'll make it appear as though the projector, dvd player or whatever was having problems. Of course that would mean a new version of the scene for each release but I think it'd be worth it.

God I love acid.

fear and loathing in Las Vegas.

I only watched it because it had Las Vegas in the title. What the hell was this movie about? It seemed to have no plot, nothing ever happened. I hated it. This is the only time I was tempted to walk out of a movie (but I didn't because I'm cheap and like to get my money's worth).

but I do recommend Dazed and Confused. It's more of a movie about the 70's than of drugs. But you can't have the 70's without a lot of pot smoking.

And Up in Smoke with Cheech and Chong was good. Chech and Chong's the next movie was also pretty decent. I didn't care for the others as much. Though the amsterdam one had it's moments.

Tired of ads?

The Stoned Age. A lot of people say it's a rip off of Dazed and Confused. I saw little similarity between the two. Stoned Age is definitely a B movie, but it's pretty entertaining and fairly accurate portrayal of the characters.

What constitutes "drug theme"?

Pulp Fiction is a damn fine movie but not one I would consider drug themed. One or two scenes does not make it so.

If the definition is to be this loose I submit:

Eyes Wide Shut
American Beauty

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

My criteria is movies that have drugs or drug users as the central element in the film or play an important part of the plot as a whole. Scarface, French Connection, Superfly, are all drug themed movies. Eyes Wide Shut is not a drug themed movie. It may be a "trippy" movie, but that's OK too.

Anyone see Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards". I saw that thing years ago after having recommended repeatedly to me. What a piece of tripe.

Has Bakshi ever made a good movie?

"Spun" needs to be added to the list. It's the best amphetamines movie ever, with an added bonus smack sequence.
