Zkrib, that's correct about the airport change.

Colon, if he flys into Manila, will have to take a bus to the domestic airport. I don't recall about the bags, he should check with his agent. This is one of the main reasons I like to fly into Cebu from Hong Kong. With the excellent accomodations, Cebu has alot going for it.

Would there be a cheaper flight if I was routed somewhere else first, or a straight flight to the Phillipines?

Flying from Hawaii... I can give you my agent's phone # here in Oregon. They're the cheapest I've found.

You might want to go Hong Kong to Cebu for the reasons I've discussed earlier. That would mean Cathay Pacific, which is fairly inexpensive compared. When will you be joining us Frankychan?


It should be cheaper from Hawaii, but from Oregon it's around $1000 round trip during November. We're planning on flying begining December however, and they don't have an ammount on that yet.

Staying at the house, $200 a month for a room with a fan, includes everything in the house, even food in the house. If you go out to eat that's not included. Being met at the airport costs extra, but not too much, basicly boat fares and expenses plus maybe $20 for my brother in law who will spend the day helping you. If you fly into Cebu you'll need to take a boat to Tag...I want to say somewhere around $20 for that, don't recall exactly.

Using our van costs, plus a driver...but if you ride with us into Tagbilaran just kick in a bit for gas.

Check with a travel agent...they're free. I would think any airline heading east could get you there. Cathay Pacific is headquartered in Hong Kong, so they'll fly you through there. Malaysian Airlines is in Kuala Lampur, so you'll go through that hub. You must have Philippine Air Lines in Honolulu, so you could probably fly direct into the Philippines.

As Lancer says, if you fly into Manila on PAL, you can change planes to Tagbalarian, which is the big city on Bohol. With the other airlines, it's probably wiser to go in through Cebu and take the boat over to Tagbalarian.

Dolores's brother Daniel works in a splendid hotel near the Cebu Airport. Originally when I stayed there, I was concerned about plane noise, but no take-off/landing was louder than very distant thunder. In fact, it rained while I was there, so it might have been very distant thunder I was hearing. Great place to stay!

Thanks Zkrib and Lancer. I gotta check the prices again. I'm in the process of getting a fulltime job so I'll have more money. But I won't know for a month or two. Kind of sucks but I wanna travel around and experience other places, would be a kick a** experience.

IIRC, Lancer one told me the Manila-to-Bohol boat takes about a week. In contrast, the Cebu-to-Bohol boat is so swift you don't get a chance to see the end of the movie they show.

SnOOpy, no there's not one of those near us. I just go to the 400+ year old catholic church in Jagna that Dolores goes to. Why not come and start one? Hope you can make it.

Colon, 30 to 32 hours one way. I recommend it as the trip is very relaxing and an aircon cabin is dirt cheap compared to western cruises. However they have had a bit of terrorist problems. Unless you get blowed up your passport should save you. Just speak French.

Really, I'd travel by boat without fear. In all their millions of trips there's only been one terrorist related problem that I'm aware of.

I'll provide links for the cruise lines when I get back from shopping with the wife.

Probably won't be able to. I'm going to be using up a lot of my vacation time this fall to campaign against Schwartenegger's special election, so I probably won't have enough left for a decent vacation.

The, believe me. She's the shopper. I exaust the tools dept and electronics pretty fast. Then it's the furniture and sports...but we have all the furniture we need, and I'm too much of an old fart for a scate board at this point. Meanwhile, Dolores is stilll in the perfume dept, with clothes and the dreaded shoe dept yet to be investigated. So yesterday I just came home and she called me when done.

bfg, yeah that stuff happens. Another good reason to fly into Cebu. It's up to you though, but our whole region is peaceful, as usual. Likely it will be resolved by then, but it's nothing that will stop us from going. Remember there are over 100,000 Americans living in the Phils permanantly...all through the Marcos years, etc.

We called our agent and Cathay Pacific won't announce ticket prices for begining December until the end of this month, or begining of next month.

It'll be fine. The president's in a world of trouble, but it's purely political; the military and police are remaining studiously neutral (as is the Church), so whatever happens should be peaceful, and the aftermath should be stable.
