I think I'm done reworking the specs for Hearthena and I intend to find a better name for the star. Thanks for your help Omni.

Does anyone want to help me with my question about the moon that I created -- Vigon? The specs for Vigon are already in a previous post.

Here are additional specs for Hearthena now that I have the other stuff done.

Surface Land and Water Ratio:
land (33 percent) water (67 percent)

Atmosphere:
nitrogen (73 percent)
Oxygen (25 percent)
Other (traces of argon, carbon dioxide and water)

Planetary Layers: depth
Crust 52 kilometers
Mantle 52 – 3,200 km
Outer core 3,200 – 6,300 km
Inner core 6,300 – 7,972 km

So what does someone else make of these specs?

Is the Virgin, er, Vigon moon a satellite of Lustyon?

Sure - what was the question?

I would have to see the revised data for Hearthena to know whether the moon is in a "proper" orbit. Nevertheless, with a larger planet and moon, the tides are going to be quite a bit larger.

The moon is going to be tidally locked like ours, given the presence of a large ocean and a tight orbit. I wouldn't worry about the planet's rotation slowing down. It will, but as a planet's initial spin is random, you can still have a day be whatever length you desire (though the tendancy will be for the month and day to move closer together in length as the system ages).

The phases of Vigon will be the same as Luna's, assuming that it orbits in the same plane as the planet's orbit.

Satellite: Luna
Distance from Earth: 384,400 km
Diameter: 3,476 km
Mass: 7.35e22 kg

Vigon
Distance from Hearthena: 362,800 km
Diameter: 4,650 km
Mass (1 = Luna’s mass): 1.15

The specs for Hearthena are already provided for in the OP. So would Vigon and Hearthena have a stable astrophysical relationship? In other words, with the specs I created, can Vigon safely orbit around Hearthena? And to what kind of oceanic tides would be expected? To what extent does Vigon slow down Hearthena's rotation?

I guess now I should find a way to diagram Vigon's different phases as they would appear for Hearthena's inhabitants. What is the simplest way to go about this without completely disregarding believability?

Omni, here is the info on Vigon. And below is the revised specs for Hearthena.

Hearthena (1) = Earth

Planet Type: terrestrial
Age: 3.5 billion years
Distance from Lusteron (1): 1.37 AU (average distance in elliptical orbit)
Axis Tilt (23.58 degrees): 21.7 degrees
Diameter (1): 1.25 or 15,945.375 kilometers
Density: (5.52): 6.7
Mass (1): 0.95
Surface Gravity (1): 1.18 (150 pounds on Earth = 170 pounds on Hearthena)
Length of one completed orbit (1): 1.43 years or 16 months
Length of one rotation (1): 27 hours resulting in about 433 days

I simplified the calculation of surface gravity by simply multiplying diameter and mass. Even if this is less accurate, I think it would still suffice for my novel.

So share any thoughts about Vigon's physics with Hearthena.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Given that Hearthena has 16 months during one orbit and 433 days, this averages out to about 27 days every calendar month.

So Vigon's time to go through all of its phases every month will be a little more shortened than Luna's.

You said the orbit takes 16 *Earth* months, your planet can have as many (or as few) months as you decide. The inhabitants may not even have the concept of months.

Why not change the planet name to Luusteron, to at least make the eroticism more subtle.
