no but it may well adversely impact other events surrounding the launch of the book, one can easily imagine the shine being taken off some event because the ending is widely known ahead of time.
also it's not a question of protecting any 'public interest', it's a question of protecting the effort and investment of the publisher.

not the same thing, and you know it.
the point is that the publisher has invested a lot of money in the launch of this book and the events surrounding that launch, so the law steps in to protect that investment. people aren't being denied free speech, they can talk and write about the book all they want after its release date, it's merely delaying the free discusion of it for a short time to protect the publisher.
