i have an apple and have no spyware on it. because OSX is so much stronger and better than microcrap in terms of security. why would you want to by such a buggy OS with security flaws up the wazzoo?

Everyone should switch to Apple then, we all know it's impossible to make programs on Macintoshes that report your behavior to a server. After all, they don't allow 3rd parties to make software that can access the internet, can they?

I have a PC and I don't have spyware either. Not even viruses. I have three anti-spyware programs and they didn't find anything in a long, long time.

I haven't junked my computer, but I've now completely erased my hard drive twice in order to get rid of malware. I'm a bright and computer-friendly guy, but following the instructions on getting rid of really virulent malware is incredibly difficult.

I've never had any viruses, spyware etc. to my knowledge. I use Mozilla / Firefox these days, and don't allow any cookies without express written consent of the National Football League. I run Grisoft's free antivirus program, and occasionally run Adaware etc. They just don't ever find anything.

I did have to do a fairly labor intensive removal of some malware on a machine at work, and if I had to do that a lot I might understand why people would be willing to pay $400 to avoid it. But there is no need to do this very often (or perhaps at all) if you simply use some caution.

Rufus, I really doubt your words. Anyone considering himself computer-friendly and bright can hardly get in contact with spyware.

I got spyware only two times, the first time was when I installed one of those P2P apps (Mobius or what it was called). No more dubios software: Problem solved.
The second time was when I accidentally clicked "yes" to install a Gator activex control. Switched to Firefox (for other reasons as well ofc): Problem solved.

There's a difference between "computer friendly" and "computer geek" that you seem not to have grasped. Basically, they both use computers well, but former has more problems with spyware and fewer problems getting laid. Hope that clears things up for you.

I have a friend that actually did this. I was shocked.

He had an e-machine though, and upgraded to a Dell, so I didn't spend too much effort trying to talk him out of it. But it was still bizare.

I wonder what will happen when his Dell has a problem? My friend though is VERY computer illiterate. Bought his first computer a year or two ago at 37. Didn't know anything about them at all. Quite sad and pathetic really.

Plus he is a bit unstable and not really my friend much anymore. Still, quite a story, eh?
