My flatmate banged a girl from Bradford for some weeks. She wasn't too cute but nice-charactered.

BFG9000 is correct, Philadelphia is one of the best located metro areas in the US. However, the city can be quite hot in the summer. If you go in the fall and time the visit correctly, you can drive West a couple of hours and see the Appalachians during the fall when the trees change color. Very beautiful, and cool temps.

And I thought Vegas was scummy and full of drugdealers and whores until I visited there this year and found I was wrong - at least as far as the Strip is concerned..
Every major city has their high crime areas - in Philly it is the Northeast and West. You just stay away from those areas and you'll be fine. Center City, Old City, Columbia Ave, Sping Garden St, South St, Penns Landing -- all areas where you can hang out safely..
Personally, I dont have a problem venturing into less desirable parts of a city, but that's because I look like someone you dont want to mess with. I had no problems spending time in Bethnal Green and Spitalfields during my London trip last year.

Howzabout here ?
quote: In 1994 UNESCO awarded the Völklingen Ironworks the status of a World Cultural Heritage site, as the only ironworks surviving worldwide from the heyday of the iron and steel industry. Situated close to Saarbrücken, on the banks of the river Saar, covering an area of more than 600,000 qm, the foundry is a hot tip for anyone seeking the exceptional. The gigantic six blast furnaces, the over 6,000 qm large blower hall with its colossal machines as well as the inclined ore lift, unique in the world, are all together highlights of engineering achievements of the early 20th century.
The 30-metre-high charging platform, from where the furnaces were charged with coke and ore, is now a huge viewing platform, surpassed only by the 45-metre-high blast heaters – a particular thrill! The Völklingen Ironworks World Cultural Heritage Site is now one of the most exciting places in the world! |
Somehow I see a large blower hall as being somewhere Park Avenue could feel at home...
