The advantage of the online version is accessibility of the cards you need. Buying loads of cards from the official store gets expensive fast, but you can trade in-game for some pretty good prices. Which has the added advantage of getting the cards you want, rather than a random selection. For casual play, that's probably the best approach, although it means that you'll pay more for any of the rare cards that everyone wants. I play unusual decks with junk rares and bulk commons, sell on any really good cards that I get, and don't play white or blue, which cuts down the "get all the new cards" factor. It's probably cost me about $250 in two years, I think.
