Really? From our various shared opinions on Civ3 I thought you liked my pudding.

What I meant was, you are a Brit and call other things pudding than I do. For me, pudding is a sweet dessert, made out of milk, usually vanilla or chocolate flavored.

That is the dessert pudding. You also have fish pudding for instance. In Norway that is.

talking about the threadīs subject, I donīt think that a city building a temple would eventually bulldoze it in order to have an archer.. why canīt you keep the building % of every city improvement?

Gameplay reasons I imagine. So that you don't prebuild every possible unit with just one turn remaining to finish it, thus having several units that will be ready almost immediately once war is declared.

(Completeting units during peacetime is inferior to almost having them, as you'd have to pay the upkeep of an actual unit, and as the AI will better assess your strength)

If you want to look at it realistically, think that an abandoned construction site will get looted and generally otherwise damaged over the course of the years.

Increase Your PM Length

Yes, but when you build a european cathedral you need 8-14 turns, and during this you cannot build military units. We all know that cathedrals needed 100-500 years in order to be completed, but this definitely didnīt prevent those cities from defending themselves like

"oh my god, they are attacking us"
"letīs switch production from cathedral to bowmen"

It was more like:
"oh my god, they are attacking us"
"let's give our builders a bow, and pretend they are bowmen"

Abandoned construction sites ARE hard to return to. They become a place for the homeless to sleep, some stuff is dragged away, the builders have moved on to other things...

Those things can count as pudding here too. If it makes you feel better I'll eat some when I play my first Civ4 game.

It wouldn't be realistic if you build 50 shields, and it stays at that 100 turns later. As for how fast the decay rates are, we'll see when we get the game.

I'm sure they're possible to tweak in XML anyway.

I would wager that you lose Zero hammers over time.
You would not want to lose anything over a period as little as 20 turns, whether it be 500 years or 20. After that, the likelyhood that you don't even WANT it anymore makes its issue moot.

It will be what it will be. An important issue it would be only for pickers of nits. (To those who are in environments where the labor of picking nits is a real part of life, I mean no offense).
