i am considering downloading the google talk, but....

with MSN, i have the option of using passport.com to register my yahoo or gmail address (any address really), and using it with MSN.

Is this an option for gmail?

Only reason im hanging onto MSN is cuz I can use my yahoo account with it, which I've used for years and for everything.

Yahoo gives me 1 gig. That'll probably grow. I dont even use 4%. I dont need more.

You need to use your Google account, which means you need a gmail account for now (I believe).

Google account will be more necessary in the future...I use it for Google's saved searches and personalized home page feature already, on top of gmail and Google Talk.

I can imagine Google being a juggernaught that is neccesary to internet life, but for now...

i have yahoo for email, fantasy sports, and occasionally music. And its my favorite way to check sports scores and general news.

When i discovered I could use my account as an account for MSN, that just sweetened the deal cuz now noone is sending email to a hotmail account i never checked.

I login to yahoo once, and I have everything. If i switched over to Google now, it would only be more logging in to check everything.

It's spread like wildfire at work and I've got 23 contacts and growing on my Google Talk list. Overwhelmingly positive response. Most of the defections are coming from MSN.

AOL Instant Messenger contains the bulk of my school buddies, while my relatives use Yahoo Messenger or MSN. I also set up a .mac account on iChat, although right now I access them all through Adium.

All my friends used AIM and/or ICQ in the late 90s. From 2001+ it was MSN, and now we're upgrading to Google Talk and MSN Messenger together until Google Talk is more feature complete.

Well when the majority of people I talk to switch from AIM to Google, I will be happy to follow the crowd

But unfortunately, they will not switch unless THEIR buddies switch, and so on. Plus there are those who will not even be aware of GoogleIM or whatever they call it. So, unless your buddies are predominately poly-esque geeks...
