I'm playing as Spikian, but am not using his characters.
I've got a Fighter 5/Mage 4 called Jacqueline Ducqorc, and a Druid 4 called Duco Yorque (He's Italian, for roleplaying fun ) who I'm looking to turn into a shifter.

I've yet to see them online. We must play at different times. I'm currently building up my monk/archer, Calia Pein.

I tend to mostly play on Friday nights GMT - 10-2am (ish).
I try to get on at other times, but can't guarantee it regularly. Forexample, I'd be on tonight, but am going out boozing (and not at the Sheikh Sperry), and have got work to do on Monday night. Maybe tomorrow, but again, I'm going to the pub to watch footie in the afternoon so may not be in a state to play.

Out of pure interest, how is the situation for spellcasters on Folderol? I know the original game and the fact, that most casters have to "prepare" a number of spells in their spellbook and are able to use them until they run out of spells and have to rest. This is mighty different from true MMOGs, where most spells can be cast infinitely often, provided you have the mana/power/energy and the (usually short) cooldown period is over. I can imagine, that resting often just to restore spells would be a hinderance in a MP environment.

Play a sorc and you are fine - you get multiple casts of your spells depending on level, and you are more ueber at high levels than any other build I've seen. Play a wizard and you have to rest once you've gone through your list of good spells.

Wizard is still nice for fancy multiclassing.

Well you don't really need to rest to learn new spells in Folerol, although you can't cast them infinitely often as a mage.
There is a potion you can neck (even mid-battle), that will give you the effects of resting straightaway, and the herbs are easy to find.

Quick questions:

Started playing NWN yesterday. I wanted to be an assassiny Elven rogue, but couldn't use the Weapon Finesse feat that's so important for this. So I decided to take levels of fighter with it, figuring the extra weapons, HP and feats would come in handy and that neither class required getting to high levels to be effective (as a wizard or sorceror would). Have I made a huge mistake? Is there anything above level 10 that I'll desperatly need by the end of the game?

I'm finding it quite hard at the moment, but then playing rogues is never easy. The +1 rapier, weapon skill in rapier and 19 dex means I almost always hit (+11 AB) and having a parry skill of 16 helps in one on ones, but I just don't do much damage, which means fights can last ages.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The only assassin build I've ever played was for SoU, and I used a ranger to get the requisite skills & feats, because I reckoned that it would be better than using both rogue and fighter levels to achieve it.
Have you only got NWN, or SoU and HotU too? If you have either of these, then I'd definitely suggest playing through the prologue to NWN a couple of times with different types of character, to get an idea of how the game works, then throwing that disc to the back of the drawer, and concentrating on SoU, then HotU with a single character.

You can take Weapon Finesse, when your BAB (Base Attack Bonus) is at least one. As rogue, this is the case from level 2 on, so you can take that feat at level 3.

Assassiny rogues are a fun class to play, almost too powerful. Fighter however does not mix in well, except feats it has little to offer for a sneaky assassin, it suits more for a thuggy rogue (brawler).

I'd suggest to take rogue levels until you have the necessary skills together, then change to assassin. One level of shadowdancer comes also handy, "hide on plain sight" is incredibly powerful and will make it possible for you to solo big dungeons.

The achilles heel of this build are creatures resistant to sneak attacks, for instance all undead.

Got spare money?

In which case stealth around until you spot the undead. Then go back and call in your henchman, who was waiting in a safe place, to do them in! A pally would be useful here.
Alternatively, get yourself a fire or holy weapon.

By the way, when you play the official campaigns, don't waste skill points for parry. Melee combat is not your thing, let this be done by your henchman. Your domain is to "break through the enemy lines", if possible whilst hidden, and to sneak from behind.

You can find an incredibly good rogue guide here, even though it is from pre-SoU and HotU times and describes the pure rogue.

Almost forgot to respond to this, but better late than never.

In a roleplay sense (and we're talking about RP games here), what type of paladin would make buddy-buddy with a thief and cutthroat? That would be against the lore, and a lawful good character (paladin) does not fit too well with a chaotic, evil (or even both!) rogue.

I played the official campaign with a female dark-elven assassin and had Grimgnaw as henchman, ya know, that lawful evil monk from the Order of the Long Death. That was great fun in RP sense. We killed the whole Neverwinter, except those characters, which are immune, including all sattelite areas.

But this type of game, albeit fun, has a downside - it is too easy. Since rogues gain levels quick and henchmen level with the main character, all challenge went down the gutter quickly. In the mid of chapter 2 I hit level 12 (and Grimgnaw too) and there was no foe who could withstand his might longer than 5-10 seconds. It became boring, because too easy, and I ditched that game.

One that cared more about playing and less about role-playing.

Call it what you will. I like RPGs for the tactical elements, and I couldn't care less about whether my paladin would or wouldn't 'want' to group with a rogue. Let's face it, grown men role playing elves and orcs is a little silly.

By "tactical elements" you probably mean ignoring one game setting (alignment). There are D&D rules (mostly for board games though) out there, which even forbid you to form parties with alignments, farther than one step from yours. So as lawful good character you could group with another lawful good, a neutral good and a lawful neutral character, maybe a true neutral, but that's it. That NWN has not implemented alignments the way they should be is for sure one of its shortcomings.

Besides, I am probably about twice your age and still like a light roleplay, so I must be completely silly . For instance in Civ3 I used nuclear subs with tactical nukes, even though they move slow as hell and don't make much sense. And I play MMORPGs according to the lore; I would never play a dwarven wizard or a dark elven paladin.

Been playing about a bit. With hindsight, a Rogue/Ranger would have been better, to get the two weapon fighting for free. However I'm enjoying it now. Getting rid of the shield and going for a Rapier+Feyduster is proving pretty effective and stylish - very elven With Linu's cleric backup, it doesn't seem to be too taking. The odd strange boss that I have a bit of trouble with (Loxor killed me) but they seem to go well together.

Plus I now have a mace of disruption for when I next come across the undead
