Emporer cbn today announced the completion of the Merchant Exchange. This project will be instrumental in improving the Hive economy and insiders predict that the additional energy will further strengthen the Emporer's dictatorial regime.

In a prepared statement Emporer cbn indicated that this project was proof that the Hive is focused on peaceful expansion and growth and looks forward to further economic ties with other nations.

Important note!!! When I opened the turn I got a notice that an election for governor had been called by Roze (AI). There are some suggested procedures (in other threads) for player initiated elections so players can each have an opportunity to bribe or cajole for votes. In that spirit I am going to post here the election standings at the time I passed the turn.

There were 3 candidates

Zaphod
Cedronian
Stuntman19 (now me --cbn)

The parties with their number of votes votes and voting intention were as follows.

Thr emporer replied " we must trust in the intelligence of the other factions. We are the most economically weak faction with a -2 Economy and they must realize that we would gain the least comparative advantage from the trade bonus arising from governor. To allow this commerce bonus to fast researching faction like the cyborgs may leave the rest of us in the technological dust. "


Later that day The Emporer made a planet wide address. " the Hive is committed to peaceful co-existence with other factions and hereby respectfully offers its services to lead the first council of planet. We would submit that it is in other factions self-interest to consider our candidacy as we have neither the economic/research advantages to take disproportionate advantage of increased trade, nor offensive military advantages that may make early infiltration such a dangerous tool. We offer to speak pact or treaty with any faction that would vote in our favor and are willing to consider any trades/terms that may be offered.

Whatever the result of the vote, we seek peaceful coexistence and look forward to continuing friendly relations.

When I got the turn, Cha Dawn had 9 votes, not 7. Just thought that I would update that so that the info is current.

Even though the Hives plea for votes sounds like a good and "neutral" idea, the Prime Function has decided that it is in the best interest for the Cyborg faction to cast their votes for their own leader.

As for the rest of the factions being "left in the dust" tech-wise, I would just like to point out that it is not the Cyborgs who are no. 1 in the tech race Besides, the Cyborgs gladly share techs with their friends and allies, both present and future.

May the best and ablest (sp?) faction leader win!

At some point during this turn the Spartans were dropped from the docket. I imagine it's because the Consciousness passed us in population. So, it's down to cbn and Cedronian as the candidates.

Because we are situated between both of these factions, and because we would like to remain friendly with BOTH of them, we abstained.

In planets first planetwide election Cedronian was elected Governor. May he govern wisely and well, for all of our sakes.

Interestingly, when I received the turn Zaphod was back on the slate again. Unfortunately (looks like a possible bug) since Zaphod was not able to vote for himself I found that there were only 2 viable candidates. Due to a distrust of the extreme militarism of the Hive, I cast my vote for the Cyborg. Long live the Governor!

Emporere cbn wishes to extend best wishes and congratulations to cedronian on his position as governor as Planet. May we all prosper under the reign of Cedronian.

The emporer is troubled that any faction could "distrust the extreme militarism" of the Hive. Emporer cbn has engaged in no offensive military actions at all and has attempted only to live in peace and harmony. It is feared that these feelings arise from experiences with other emporers on other worlds that bear no relation to the Hive's plans and preferences on this Planet.

John-SJ , thanks-- I enjoy doing a little color and its good to hear that someone (anybody)reads the stuff. And if I give a little something away that aids my opponents-- so what. I don't really expect to win this one anyway. I found it very difficult taking over in the 2140s without even the tech to build a former. Very different than my style (formers are a priority for me). So I said heck with it and I will have a little fun.

I do find it difficult to get in the Hive mindset though-- I mean police state as my political choice !!! I'll keep posting though since I find it adds a bit of flavor to the game experience. The question is when will there be some broadcasts out of the pirates??
