Timbuktu Times
New Kingdom Year 300 1/2 Gold
Tale of Writing
At the year of 3375, aka. New Kingdom 1 year, the Great Pharaoh Ray King raised to be the new ruler of Mali Kingdom. The new king looked up and down, searched all over the hyperspace, but he could not find any previous written history about his Kingdom. Finally, he consulted with his science advisor, and found that the pathetic Mali people even did not know how to write! The new king took it as a very serious issue, and the order was given: we must discover the myth of Writing! The King said, whoever can discover the secret, the King will share him/her all the treasure of the Kingdom! All the wisest men/women are motivated to focus on this new research direction. But according to the science advisor, it still needed at least another 100 years before we can discover it ourselve. The King was so depressed.
One day, the King stepped up to the tower of his palace, looked through the far end between the sky and desert, he decided to seek help from other nations. According to the Foreign Minister, the Mali had three neighbers: Zulu, Israelite, and Adriatics.
At first, the King met with Zulu King. A peace treaty was easily achieved. But Zulu King didn't want to exchange any technologies with us. Emissaries back from Israelite also brought bad news: Isaelite the Wise also did not know how to write. Well, maybe wise people don't need to write. But our pathetic Mali people needed it. Finally, the Great Paraoh met with Adriatics King. The Adriatics agreed to teach us in exchange our advanced wisedom: trade. So it was done. As their first practics, the Adriatics asked to sell us Literature for 100 gold. And we accepted it.
Finally, the Mali people had their own language, which was composed of Mali Alphabet and Adriatics grammar. On the way back to the Kingdom, the Great Pharaoh told his science Minster an ancient wisdom, Seafaring. It was the first document written in Mali language.

Alright this is a serious post by Il Capo, so let's take a listen...
First thing I wanted to say was that this is a solid group who comes and plays, the two subs we've taken in (Sekong and Prometheus) have been more than a pleasant surprise, and I am glad that we found these clowns.
Drake's been doing an awesome job with our website ( www.geocities.com/history_of_the_world ) and I know that everyone appreciates the work. Obviously we've had a few things going wrong, but that was to be expected, and it was not even as close to ebing as horrible as it could have been. Sun Tzu opted out, and Chris seemingly faded into oblivion; but as I said we picked up two stand-up guys that I am fortunant to play with.
Its Tuesday morning right now, around ten thirty or so, and I wanted to just remind everyone that we pick up where we left off this Thursday, I was wondering if anyone can possibly make it a bit earlier? Say 7:00 Eastern time?
Two other issues I wanted to tackle: (1) Dimbleby on two occasions has asked to play a supplimental session on Saturday or Sunday, for me Sunday would be the best and I wanted to know if anyone could make an extra Sunday session, and if so at what time? (2) Last game one of our players left "early" by only around ten minutes, I just wanted to make sure everyone has their time cleared for at the most a half hour extra P.T. if there is an emergency or a good reason you cannot play then that's good, but I don't think ANYONE in the group wants to hear "I have another game right now bye!" again, thoughts?
As always, thanks for the support, and the Cap's finished.
Peace.

1st of all, I think we finished the game just about the right time, last week. Even if War4 did not have another game waiting, we might not be able to play much longer. At least I could not.
Secondly, war4 just lost his grandma recently. Please be nice to him. After all it's just a game. Please show yr understanding. We had a very good start with this game. I enjoyed it because I felt have fun with good friends. I hope we can have such feeling by showing understanding for others. Especially at such bad time.

I just wanna throw in two more cents here...
Why is everyone telling me to relax? I made a simple statement, and its a true statement. Nobody in this group wants to play second fiddle to another group especially when this game had been planned at least one month in advance. I felt disrespected, personally, when he asked to leave early. That's the way I percieved it, maybe you guys percieved it differently I don't know. I was merely saying that it would be better for the group if you didn't schedule anything the second afterwards in case we need to make up for lost time. That's all, I never mentioned anyone by name and used a specific example because it was something that people could understand.
As far as the other thing goes, War4 has issues that's fine. He has a serious problem and its understandable that he would be upset and irritable due to the problem. However I don't think that the group should have to placate the situation, we've had an example of this before in this group and its unfortunate but its also not something that should ruin the game. Chris had a similar situation come up, and decided to opt out temporarily, which turned out to be perminantly. Maybe War4, if the situation in question is that unbearable, should take a small leave of absence to get his composure back. Even then, I have no problem with playing against/with War4, he's a good player and a stand up guy, I appreciate his time and effort in this game.
Peace.

Paul has had words with El Capo Diego who does not respect the Aussie claim.
We started out on a lump of a desert island and seek to claim rather poor land in South America. I seek the counsel of my allies and other wise leaders of the world.
The Adriatic league started in the lush valleys and grasslands of Europe. And still have much land to settle in the old country. Yet, El Capo says he will fight for land in America!
Does the rest of the world feel that Paul's claim is reasonable?
We warn the world of the volatile and unreasonable behaviour of the League.
We will negotiate boundaries with civilsed and respectful nations only.....

First point; I am not a spaniard it is Il Capo not El Capo.
I never said I am going to fight you, what I said was I do not respect this claim on the grounds that it is not fair to anyone else.
If I were to make a huge land claim the way you did I would be laughed at, and the same should occur to you, except you have half the world in an alliance which will support this ridiculous land claim.
My stance is that the new world is open season, whoever settles what gets it. If you want to fight for land that is your choice to do so, I simply said that I would settle anywhere I deem plausable and if one chooses to fight me based solely on where I place my settlements, then I would be more than willing to accomodate them.
But for you to assume that you can just go out of your way and make land claims is unfair to me, and is pesonally dispariaging to me and my people. To further believe you can make these claims based on your power and my relative weakness compared to that power is yet another insult, and then to base this huge claim on the fact that you have a very strong alliance is further evidence that you might intend on using violent means to achieve this claim.
It is unfair that you get the opportunity to make a claim and expect everyone else to agree to it, that is what I am saying, and I believe every nation on this planet including your allies would agree with that.
I do not bow down to anyone, including whoever happens to be on top, expecting me to agree to your every whim is quite insulting as well.
-Adriatic League.

Your map also differentiates with the original zulu agreements that you made. Our understanding was that South America was to be divided in two on a straight line. This means that your original line that youve drawn from the tip of South America should go straight through the entire continent to the top. This is what Shakeem agreed to and he will not honor your claim in eastern S. America. Although most of this land is made up of jungle, the resources there are numerable. Shakeem also wants to remind Consul Keating, that real estate in Southern Africa is very limited and our expansion into the new world will not be covering the Northern America. That being said, if you insist upon retaining your claim in S. America, we will be forced to migrate there (N. America). We do not desire this, so don't make the mistake of forcing us into an akward situation.
The wide range that is claimed is almost as ridiculous as Shakeem claming that Canada is his. Consul Keating, we wish the best of luck to you, but you're in a dream world if you think the rest of the world will bow to your wishes........
Also, if you wish to complain of god given land, please take a look at China and Israel. Israel is sandwiched between three large nations and has no room to expand. Yet you do not hear them making claims that they cannot support. And China. China was raped out of their land by the Mongols. Their potential was squashed like a bug long ago. Australia leads the world in population and power. Apparently the land god gave you could not be that poor. To be ambitious is one thing. To be greedy is another.

New Timbuktu Times.
AD. 30. 1/4 Gold
Headline: The Settlement in New Land.
After centuries' searching, we finally found a new land. The New Timbuktu City(NTC) are founded.
Since the early days, The Great Pharaoh had been concerned about the growth limit of Mali due to a lack of fertilize land. About half land of Mali are desert. The only answer to this problem is exploring new land. The first several orders of The Great Pharaoh included sending a navy fleet to find the new land. After Several hundred years' travelling, the fleet passed Iceland, Greenland, and finally found a New Land. Meanwhile another navy fleet with new seafaring technology also arrived. Local nomads seemed happy to our arrival. Some skilled tribes joined us. A local legion called Sitting Bull has been assigned to be the associate military leader at new settlement. The head of all the settlement is believe to be the Great Pharaoh himself. He bought the land of New Timbuktu from natives by a bag of colorful stone: emerald, gold, and ruby, which represent the color of our flag. Some attendant of the Paraoh argued that it might be too expensive. But the Pharaoh replies, "If you know that, hundred years later, the city founded here will be the center of the world, the icon of freedom, each acre of its land will worth more than that, you would not say so. And my reincarnation will come back here 2000 years later." With a big smile on his face, the Pharaoh think: what I really mean is that I AM directing the founding of this city, where I am living, from 2000 years later.
That year was called AD.1. It's popular believed that AD is the abbreviation of "After great Discover". But only the Pharaoh know that there is an another cause yet to be revealed. When HES TIME COMES.
The Building of Great Wall
In order to defend our cities, the Great Wall was built. It's a movement began from Timbuktu. It compose of city walls surround each of cities, and between cities. The Great Wall will give us special benefit when defending barbarians and other invassions. Almost every families devoted to this great project. Kids play with stones since very young. Therefore it became a habit that wherever out settler found a new city, the first thing they will do is to build a city wall. Believe or not, they can do it even when they have sweetest wildest dreams. Otherwise it can't explain how it could be done in almost no time. Maybe that's god's miracle onto people living in pathetic desert.
International reports.
At the time of finish Great Wall project, we re-state our peace willing toward all nations. In the New Land, we expect to meet new nations and seeking true friendship. Before any agreement was made, we claim the land we settle first. Land within our cities's radius, in between, and nearby, now and in future, before official agrrements are made. We like to discuss the issue with leaders of other nations.
Our friendship with Zulu nation are developing. Caravans come from Zulu. They are welcome. Some of our caravans are also ready to depart from Timbuktu. We look forward to further trading with Great Zulu.
Israelite are building fortress at the border. It's not friendly movie, but we hope it will end as defense purpose only.
We continued to trade some advanced technologies with Adriatic League, but meanwhile they breaked the land agreement with us, they landed at Tunis and claimed that's within their city's radius. The Tunis settlement project have to be postponed. While the Foreign Minister still stay in League to negotiate the situations, military force are not that opatient. Middle class military officers are angry about league's behavor. Rumor said some special action might be performed.
Domestic Report.
Building road. Building road.
Building Irrigation. Building Irrigation.

When European explorers arrived in new worlds they DID claim whole lands. Sometimes several nations laid claims, sometimes there were wars.
Paul has made an Aussie claim and is prepared to peacefully negotiate the borders as previously stated.....

Shakeem, you said you would send the Aussies a map but it did not arrive.
So we proposed the claims in the posted map as a suggestion since the additional land Paul would like to claim is virtually all jungle anyway.
However, your words are correct and we shall amend our boundary to reflect the longitude that you suggest.
You must admit that, if you count up the land area, the Aussies are at a huge disadvantage and when you add to that the poor quality of our terrain I appeal to the world to understand the need for at least the rest of our claim.

Paul can support his claim and it's up to all nations to provide for their own people.
Paul wishes friendship with the Zulu folk and is disappointed with the tone and manner of this missive.
Shakeem's generosity in securing peace with the Aussies will not be forgotten, however. And it is clear you see some merit in the argument that a nation starting out with poor land deserves a little international support in securing at least some additional colonies, albeit also with poor terrain.
Clearly the Aussies have fully recognised the rights of the Chinese to large areas of land in North America.
