A Chinese whisper is where one person whispers something to the next person, who in turn whispers to the next person and so on and so forth. But in this process, there is a slight mishearing of it from time to time, and these add up, so by the time you have been around a large enough group, the message that comes out sounds nothing like the original. And hence the connection with people replying to posts having not read them properly, and so on and so forth. This goes on ad infinitum...

Well I am not referring to PMs (although there is that, granted) but more the fact that people do not read previous posts to threads properly, and launch into a tirade that isn't strictly related, or deviating a bit from the theme. Or they get their own idea of what to talk about that is slighty 'off theme'. And it goes on from there from poster to poster. Until you can have threads which are totally irrelevent to their intended purpose...and it happens often; how a picture thread can turn into David Floyd b*tching about his love life, or this thread on Ming's Apolyton career turning into a discussion about the implications of Chinese whispers at Apolyton. It isn't threadjacking, but digression certainly happens and people talk around the subject as necessary!
