I suspect that BJ took the turn since he emailed me about a recipe for a new drink at his bar, and I know (from another game) that Darsnan has been away for a few days, but has the turn gone on a long slow journey otherwise?

(Sorry for the delay; I had a major rethinking to do in light of JPJ's aggressive behavior and also had some technical difficulties - it always seems to happen whenever I inquire about someone elses delays.)

His Droneness, JPJ has occupied, by unknown means, but most likely the (terrorist style) suicide probe attack, the former Yang base adjacent to (and conveying the powers of) the Manifold Nexus, on "Our" southern continent, in fact within 6 tiles of one of our bases. We announced a few years ago that we would leave you'all to your transcending if you would leave us to our Yang wars. We did not announce that it was acceptable to take advantage of our Yang wars to "Cherry Pick" selected Yang bases after we paid the price of breaking his resistance and continue to occupy his attention. We had previously requested JPJ's help in our conflict with Yang and none was forthcoming as he seemed only interested in his electoral politics - he in fact responded with a snide message about how we shouldn't think we are hot sh** just because we are a military hot shot.

This action is in contravention of standard UN policy regarding poaching in other human player's territories; it is in contravention of the Law of the Sea (subsection: keeping your %^#*%&!# ^&**&%#%ing nose the f*&# out of other peoples &*((*#@#ing business; it is fratricide against BiG Brother; but worst of all, it is a violation of the NHL "Third Man in a Fight" rule (he be man no more). We hereby formally request pronouncement of Censure by the United Nations and a demand that JPJ withdraw from our continent immediately. We hereby give formal notice under our "Right of First Refusal" that JPJ has been deemed to be "First Refuse" and may be treated by all in said fashion. We hearby give formal notice of intent under the Law of the Sea to kick JPJ's %^#*%&!# ^&**&%#%ing a** the f*&# off of our &^*##@ing landmass forthwith a Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum.

According to our Enlightened Leadership Council, it is our responsibility as peaceloving peoples to offer the Drone people pacific alternatives to resolve this issue. We have accordingly made several treaty offers to his Droneness which could resolve this crisis with little or no violence required; we urge the Drone Nation to seriously consider these proposals as they are the last great hope for peace.

The Drones incited a worker's revolt at People's Endeavour in response to the Chairman's vendetta. This was a legitimate target as far as I am concerned and I was not aware until now that you had laid claim to Yang's entire continent.

The alternatives to war the Cyborgs offer are extortion or surrender. The Free Drones will not submit to either.

The Peace Keepers, under Commissioner vitaminj, did not intercede in the original conflict between the Consciousness and the Hive, and because of this deriliction of the Peace Keeper's most sacred duties, vitaminj was censured in favor of the highly succesful Breeding Program Director, Darsnan. Now, because the Peace Keeper's did not intercede in the original conflict, the winds of war have now spread the conflagaration to the Drones.
The Peace Keepers are therefore taking the view of the conflict as follows: that the original conflict between the Consciousness and the Hive stemmed from the Hive's taking exception to the Consciousness inadvertently building an outpost in what the Hive considered its territory. Unfortunately, it appears that Yang would not listen to reason in this subject and continually vendetta'd against the Consciousness. We therefore lay the blame of the continueing Hive/ Consciousness conflict on the Hive. The newly developing diplomatic crisis between the Consciousness and the Drones stems from the Drones aquiring a base in a known zone of conflict between the Hive and Consciousness. The Peace Keepers are taking the stance that if a faction knowingly inserts themselves into an arena already in conflict, then they also run the risk of being drawn into this conflict as well. We also feel that this was an unwarranted aggression in an already war-torn part of Planet, and therefore feel that if a mutual agreement between the Consciousness and Drones cannot be reached, then it is the solemn duty of the Peace Keeper faction to intercede on behalf of the faction wronged, in this case the Consciousness, and return this troubled area to a peaceful state. We will await a reply as to whether the Consciousness and Drones can come to terms, and if not, then the Peace Keepers will intercede as we deem appropriate.

Regrettably, the DroneMeister selected Option 3 and we were forced to intervene in the fratricidal conflict triggered by JPJ. Apparently the former Hive Citizens were none to happy to have been invaded by the drones in the first place, at least the ones who have recovered enough from the Drone's flagrant use of the crudest Mind Control drugs and etherial emanations to be able to talk coherently. It will be many years before the full legacy of IMCS* is revealed and hopefully ameliorated somehow. Even among the least affected adults, glazed eyes and trancelike movements are all too noticeable; some have been said to have wandered off into the desert, claiming to be communing somehow with the native life of Planet.

The Cyborg People and the People of the Hive are united in their undying determination to keep our shared continent free of drones and their despicable weapons of mass torture and infanticide. We are, however, more than willing to resume our previous peaceful relationships with the Drone people should they desire peace and forswear violence and subversion against our Peoples and renounce any territorial ambitions in our lands. We would of course pledge the same.


* IMCS = Infant Mind Control Syndrome, some say the cruelest output of the labs.
* Historical note: the first known use of IMCS-causing Mind Control drugs was on Planet, in 2182/3 by the infamous JPJ of the Drones. Over 750 children under 6 were known to have experienced IMCS: Degree 2 or worse, resulting in permanent institutionalization or death. Legal judgements in the amout of 15 trillion ec's were awarded to the victims and/or their families from the soon depleted coffers of the then "Drone" Faction (now known as the "Children's" Faction, having been reconstituted and rededicated to childrens' benificence in an attempt to expiate their guilt (and because the Planetary High Court so ruled).

A temporary ceasefire has been signed with the occupying forces at People's Endeavour.
The Borgs have expressed a desire for peace, though it remains to be seen whether they can translate this into something tangible - while the issue of their invasion of Free Drone sovereign territory remains unaddressed the two factions are still, technically, at a state of war.

Interesting way of entering into a truce this Foreman has.

First attack (or try to probe) People's Endeavor;
Then accept our pending (for several turns) truce offer;
Then make a big point of saying we are still at war?

Accepting the truce after attacking may violate the rules - namely this one:

If a player employs a tactic that causes a state of vendetta, they are not allowed to "accept" a pending diplomatic agreement with that faction in the same turn, causing a change in diplomatic status or the transfer of energy or knowledge.

It certainly violates the spirit of that rule in any case. In order for us to respond in kind, we would have suffered damage to our reputation that the Drones didn't suffer. Looked at another way, they were basically shooting the guys with the white flags, then quick sign the papers before we could shoot them back without being bad guys. Anyway, there wasn't much damage done (just wounds to our probe), so we will leave this in the hands of our very capable Sea Lawyer, the Honorable Cap'n BlackJack, Esq. to extract whatever measure of flesh he deems appropriate. We reserve the right to renew this issue should the Drones attempt to further benefit from this act.

In the interests of peace, we forebore taking aggressive action against the Drones (and merely interrogated and returned a Drone probeship lurking off our Western Shore) to see if they really want peace or are just stalling for time while building up offensive capabilities.

We do consider the warship in the harbor at People's Endeavor to be persona non grata and we will take whatever actions are available to us to evict it should it be in the vicinity next turn. Additional Drone probe ships (or land probes or any other Drone units for that matter) are similarly unwelcome in our territory and the contiguous landmasses (such as the territory of our associate Chairman Yang); future incursions may not be dealt with as leniently as was just the case with the probeship. Respect for our continental integrity is a prerequisite for and is very highly conducive to peaceful relations.
