Wait a minute, can we assume that just maybe civilizations dont care about number crunching as much as they care about getting their CITIZENs back? History has shown that nations will goto great lengths just to protect relatively "poor" territories just because of pride and the fact that it is/was theirs to begin with!

Eh, this isn't a 'strictly business' calculation. Strategic value, production value, etc. most likely influence the choice as well.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Along the lines of a Empire builing simulator. Making a civilzation simulator is near impossible. The amount of things that would have to go into it would be ridiculous not to mention the tedium. On the other Civ3 is the closest thing yet.
If you don't have SMAC then you really should get it. I keep thinking about things in it and realizing they are not Civ3. Like in SMAC their were special locations on world. They would have something special such as producing more money or having greater production. Another thing i liked In SMAC was the fact that forests would expand and so would kelp farms. It may have been futuristic but to me it seemed more realistic. If you increased the height of something it cause one side to getter wetter and the other side drier and so on. Oh well.

I totally disagree with this! Communism and fascism share nothing in common. As someone else said above, communism is left wing and fascism is right wing. Loosely speaking, fascism is a derivative of nationalism and communism is a derivative of socialism. Communism failed and so you only get a partial picture of what it is (if you look at past history). For instance, the proletarian "dictartorship" under communism is supposed to be temporary while under fascism it is permanent.

The only reason you think they are the same is because you are looking at the results instead of the underlying principles. I think if you use this approach almost everything looks the same. For example, many African, Asian and South/Latin American countries practice parliamentary democracy+capitalism but you can't tell the difference betwenn that and dictatorships if you just look at the results. Another example is what I heard on the news a few weeks ago. Apparently in Germany, peace activists (left wing) were protesting against the war in Afghanistan, while at the same time, neo-Nazis (right wing) were also protesting against the war. Both of them had similar goals yet their underlying reasons were completely different. Same thing applies to econopolicial systems--can't look at results.

Regarding Christian fundamentalism and Islamic fundamentalism, I agree with you. In fact, I would take it one step further. According to me, they are both the SAME (from an economic or political point of view). I think it is accurate to refer to them simply as religious fundamentalism. Yes they have different rules and regulations but the principles and philosophy behind them are the same. Islamic fundamentalism establishes a society based on Koran while Christian fundamentalism basically tries to follow the Bible.

Got spare money?

haha... communism is left wing, you guys kill me... The difference between communism and fascism is in communism the gov't uses and exploits its own, while in fascism the gov't uses and exploits the other. They are both built on abuse of power and central menagement by an aristocraticly selected or self proclaimed modern day monarch. Except the communists are atheists while fascists belive in their own divinity.

The two gov't types are more alike in their ambitions and execution than they are similar.

most of your theories about communism are just that. the reality is different than the definition. you haven't lived in it.
