A landlocked non Slavic speaking former East Bloc country in Europe!!?

They're all slavic speaking countries aren't they?

Except... If Romanian isn't a Slavic language - in which case I'll plump for Moldova.

Used to be called Bessarabia and was part of Romania...

(One way or another, I've probably pissed off the Romanians!)

For some reason, in spite of Dacia being one of the dodgier provinces of the Roman empire, the Latin language persisted there and became Romanian (hence the name ), and is classified as a Romance language.

Also, Hungarian is most closely related to Finnish and Estonian, though you'd have to be a trained linguist to spot any similarity.

Yeah, all their surnames end in 'ski'...

So Seneca, is Romanian a slavic language? I think it's a Romany/Romance language which would be different, wouldn't it?

Moldova would fit the criteria as IIRC Armenia is on the wrong side of the Caucasus to be European...

Got spare money?

Moldova has an itsi bitsy access to the black sea, therefore it's not landlocked. And beside the fact that all ex-yugoslavian states speak slvic languages: they were NOT part of the Warsaw pact. Only logical solution: Armenia

Not on the map I'm looking at - there's a very thin strip of Ukrainian land right on the coast. How else would they easily get to Odessa?

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Cos I'm mean.

And it's screamingly obvious now, anyway.

Why don't those mean old Ukrainians give Moldova just a bit of coastline? Then the country might have something going for it...
