Defensive probes don't protect units in the field (well, they would, but it's impractical to stack everything) and you need a lot of them in a base if the AI sends a probe wave. I'd much rather have HSA. And my choice was based on SMAC; I don't have SMACX. (Anyone know where I can buy it for $10 or less?)
