I can only state for the record, that the perported trawler was in fact a Gaian probe, seeking to steal information from another faction.
I did everyone a favor by eliminating it. In fact, I remember not long ago, that one of my probe teams was eliminated by someone else, yet I did not call it an international incident.

Since the Hive is now protesting the Gaian assertions of the Hive's blatant aggressions, we would like to call a committee chaired by the U.N. Faction, led by the esteemed Commissioner Radman, to thoroughly investigate this incident and draw a conclusion as to whose allegations are true or not. The Gaians therefore request that the Hive vessel in question remain in its position until U.N. Investigation vessels can reach said area, view damage to the Hive vessel, salvage the Gaian Trawler, and ascertain the truth to this situation!

if u look in the commlinks, it will say we are not at vendetta. since destroying a probe team is not considered an act of war, we are still at truce/no truce.
i suggest that all gaian forces refrain from violating hive territory in the future, as they will be shot down on sight.

The University Gov emphatizes peaceful relationships between our factions and is sorry to hear of this incident. We hope that everyone will refrain from future aggressions. However Probe units do not exactly share the same immunity other units do. But I do wonder if Hive was forced to attack this unit instead of simply returning it to Gaians.

Have it be known that a few years back, a Hive probe team was caught within established Morgan territory.
This team was simply questioned and returned to Hive territory. No harm had come to the team.

Actually, since it was a probe to probe confrontation between I and Darsnan. I was not given the option to interrogate his probe team. Clearly, Darsnan was using that probe team to 'obtain' information about other factions, therefore, I felt it my duty to eliminate it.
probe vs probe combat is not sufficient for vendetta. however, if a military unit destroys a probe, then that is sufficient for vendetta.
Thank you DuMa, I was not aware that you had returned the probe team. You must realize, that I cannot possibly keep tabs on all my units, as my empire is vast and proving more difficult to run by the day.
I'm thinking about hiring some more assissants, preferably, with the latest enhancements.

Well, considering that I actually encountered 2 Hive Probe Foils last turn, plus the Hive Probe that duMa sent home, it would appear as though Chairman smhfan86 is much more into the probing of his neighbors than I am! In response to this datum, I am currently building many probe teams to man my seacoast cities in response: I suggest other factions do the same before the Hive gets to them, too!

Question: While just playing the most recent turn, I got a fatal error and the game crashed. Something about unable to allocate buffer. Is this cuz I haven't turned off my computer in a day?

I started two other games around the same time. I'm on turn 26 on one, turn 15 on another.
I leave my computer on 24/7, I get memory problems with SMAC. Someone had recommended RAMBooster to me... but I found it didn't help a hell of a lot. I just need more RAM... although my computer doesn't seem to realize that it's not that tough any more... but I'm not gonna tell it. This little PII450 is outperforming my friends' PIII800's in games.
Ah well. Post #200. Does that change my status?
