Not "should you", but "will you". Also, not "bomb", but "invade".

I'll say again: I have a hunch the US is going to back down on this one. They'll send in the cruisies and leave it at that.

I think Bush really did himself a disservice by whipping up US public opinion about Iraq. He's got really minimal support with his Eurocom allies and less than none from the more important Arabcom allies.

Well. He know's politically at home. He has strong backing for removing Saddam.....almost 70% approve. And the Senate is pushing for him. And the hawks in his own administration..

He's evaulating these things now. I think Cheney will come from ME and report to Bush. Bush will then make his decision. He ha some factors.

1) Iraqi air defenses are trying there damnest to hit a warplane. Its only a matter of time if we let them sit down there and upgrade

2)The US pilot rumoured to be alive and held captiveor 9 years.

3) Saddam's refusal to allow weapons inspectors

4)Bush has a Window of oppurtunity. For say ; another 6 months. Before the war takes the back burner. He know's he can strike one more arab nation before wrapping the big guns in the WoT. Who is it gonna be? A peon harborer like Somalia? Or a supporter and Philosphical rallying cry in Iraq?

Agreed. While I believe that the war will probably be over within a few weeks (I really doubt Saddam's got much support by now), the US is going to completly trash it's international reputation in the process.

The problem is that I feel Shrubya&co. incorrectly evaluated the international pol. landscape. Support for an attack inside US and lack of it outside is actually what's putting his ass in a sling right now. His admin. started the saber-rattling within a month or so of Sept. 11 because they smelled the "window of opportunity" you referred to and wanted to use it. The thing is, that window wasn't as big (timewise) as they originally thought, and it wasn't as important an effect as they'd hoped. Now the US pop is screaming for Saddam's head and the US is getting jammed up trying to arrange it with the Saudis et al (and less importantly the EU et al). It has the potential to be a really bad PR situation for the White House if they can't do it.

I'm not saying that Iraq hasn't violated the ceasefire by tossing the weapons inspectors out; I'm saying that the world outside the US doesn't really see this as sufficient cause.

Now the US seems to be backing off slightly on the rhetoric. Cheney's gonna try and pry something from the Arabs, but I doubt he'll get what he wants. The US will be stuck with the choices of trying to invade Iraq with only the barest support from Britain and none from anybody else, or bombing Baghdad for a month or two. They'll choose option 2 and claim victory. Saddam will poke his snout out from the rubble and claim victory. All will be as it was, minus a couple million pounds of HE and 25 000 Iraqis.

I am sure that americans took no lessons after WW2.
How exactly they tried to teach you a lesson?
Communists?
What lessons you took from Cold war?
Terrorists?
What lessons you took from Sept 11?

How anyone could give a lesson to somebody who refuse to learn?

KH your point is taken. And the International political landsape is indeed against a strike on Iraq. But there is lots of pressure at home for this. You cannot imagine how many hard the media, people like O'Reilly, Matthews, most of the news anchors. All seem to be in favor of removing Iraq. And there opinions DO show through on TV with segment after segment of reasons...

60 senaters have called bush and asked him to attack Baghdad. Ask any person an american Streets what they think of Saddam. They will tell you he needs to be removed ASAP. Becuse what if someday he gave WoD to Terrorists?

I believe in the end we will go in. Be it a small coalition. I dont know. But we will. There is just too much Sabre Rattling go on here.

I know what's going on inside the US. I do get American TV on half my channels, you know.

Public support inside the US is not enough to take Iraq without causing some really significant problems in the ME. Now Bush is going to have to choose between the polls and a foreign-relations meltdown.

We're gonna screw Greece just like she got screwed by Imperial Rome and, later, Turkey. Long and hard, baby! And then we're gonna stay in her home for a few millennia while she behaves like a good house wife by cooking the meals, bearing the squawling half n half brats and cleaning the floors!

Oops. My apologies. Just couldn't resist piling on. **slips on thin veneer of civilization mask** OK. I'm a good American again. The bad American has been stuffed back into his dark corner.

Imperial Rome - culturally defeated = Byzantium Greek again.

Ottomans - defeated = condemned to live in poverty, fascism and suffering by their own hand

Italians WW2 - defeated = revenge for Rome

That's too bad about the Christian/Muslim schism in terms of marriage. Who knows what sort of spicy, exotic children humanity missed out on creating during those years.

quote:
Come on now Cyber BOMb US! SIGN YOUR DOOM TO COME! it's destiny if you attack Greece.

Now, now, Paiktis. If I were to be charged with the destruction of Greece, I wouldn't even bother with occupation. I'd simple toss a few thousand cruise missiles your way, then send in various aerial forces — from gunships to stealth bombers and such — to finish off what the missiles missed. Then, last but not least, I'd employ the use of a biological weapon that would sterialize the survivors (male and female). Then I'd sit back and wait a generation or two for humanity in that part of the world to fade away and for nature to reassert itself. Then I'd send in the colonists who would be like the Olympian Gods to the few cavemen and women living up in the hills and mountains. A few bolts of "lightning" from our space-based weaponry would be enough to awe your descendants, Paiktis.

quote:
Oh on the other hand you could just marry an Amazon yes, nice invasion that too

Growl. I have to admit that my ideal partner would definitely not be a "domesticated" woman. She'd have the spirit of her Amazon ancestors (the ones that impressed Herodutus (sp) so much.
