Assuming you mean historically-correct starting positions for the world maps, no, they will not be in the patch.

If it were really "insanely easy" it would have been done a long time ago. This speaks to the editor's capacity for unit and city placement, so they go hand in hand.

Or else what?

Anybody around here heard of "wait and see"?

Nah, let's all have high expectations so we can have a damn fit when they don't come through.

Can you tease us with hits as to changes in the editor, by any chance?

Got spare money?

It seems likely that there is a function to return a pseudo-random coordinate for any arbitrary starting position, else there has been a program design gaffe. Assuming there is such a function, there is likely a companion function that reads the coordinate and assigns it to any arbitrary civ, else there has been a program design gaffe. Assuming there is such a companion function, assigning the coordinates from the editor ought to be trivial, else it has been poorly designed.

Full PM-box? Change here!

It seems likely that there is an inclination to second guess what-ever Firaxis does, else the amount of noise on this forum makes no sense. Assuming there is such an inclination, there is likely a companion inclination that causes some to never let up, else there would be less noise. Assuming there is such a companion inclination, whipping up a frenzy of expectations ought to be trivial, else we would wait to see what Firaxis does.

Well Lib...
While they might not have answered many things with the patch (still need to read the readme file when they make it available), at least they are talking...

Things could be worse

Yes, I suppose they could be hurling voodoo curses at us or something.

If it will assuage your concerns, I will put it plainly: I do now, and always have, appreciated whatever information Firaxis will give us, even if it is information that I don't like.

Now I'm suspecting that there is something fundamentally wrong with the map editor. If so, I would say that they will wait until work on the Gold version starts for an overhaul of it. In fact, it may never come out in a patch any time soon.

It seems to me that speculating on the design and implementation of an application of any size or depth (which the editor is, IMO) is an exercise in futility. Drawing any kind of conclusions from such a speculation seems equally as useless, or worse yet, specious.

The editor may well be poorly designed, but any guess on that is just that; what's important is the execution, which for now -is- lacking.
