War Increase Your PM Length

I don't necessarily 'get bored' looking at my 20 Cavalry, but I do realize they are costing me gold because of their upkeep so I better find a use for them. I also hear my Elite Cavalry asking when they can become leaders. Add to the fact that at some point I often run out of useful non-military things (8shields for 1 gold wealth is pathetic) to build in many cities AND then my Golden Age hits... my army gets massive whether I like it or not. Later, 1 turn Cavalry isn't uncommon. It seems MUCH cheaper/faster to build units/buildings in Civ3 (probably due to mined grasslands)... no stock market or grocery store either... which results in less options to choose from later in the game. No surprise why things get boring later & worse that many Modern Age Discoveries never get used since the Spaceship & UN are so easy & fast to build.

I have found some strategies when I play pacifist, but they pale in comparison to the quick & strong powers/benefits of war.

Increase Your PM Length

This is my general feeling:

Civ sucks as a building game, like SimCity. It is too simplistic.

Civ sucks as a war game, like take-your-pick . It is too simplistic.

The only way Civ is interesting to me is in mixing those two functions. It needs both those legs to stand on, because either one by itself is just not that good compared to a game devoted to that.

I guess that is like the cry of the hybrid gamer or something, maybe. Again, that's just how I see it, I can understand if you don't.

That's not true in the least bit. All nations have a standing army. The United States one may be large numberswise, but not percentage wise. Russia, China, Korea all have large standing armimes, percentage wise. I do what the US did in WWII, when war finally arrived, switching from producing economic and social improvements to military units. I rely on massive production. When I have nothing else to build I have Wealth. I increased what Wealth does to make up for the loss in production. The game isn't perfect, but it is good.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

of course countries have standing armies, China has a big one because it is militaristic, and Russia cos it is in a war. The USA spends imense amounts on defense.
and like Pyrodrew said, it is often the case that all the improvments have been built, ealth is pointless, so just start stacking up military units. I am now just starting the modern age in a game, i have the biggest army in the world, but i have noithing to do but look at it and make more, cos there are no new city improvments. it becomes a waiting game - waiting to attack.

I never said anything about me playing on deity level in that post. I was talking about the AIs production advantages on deity level, which are fact.
