Actually, I was one of the few people who were against randomly handing out the URL, and I would have never posted it in a thread on the OT like you did In fact, I don't think anyone posted the URL except you, though it was passed around on ICQ, AIM and such quite liberally.

As for the argument before the fall, there were many that I was aware of, and probably even more that I'm not aware of. I remember some of us wanting to make something of the place, so that we wouldn't be found out, and others liberally tossed out the URL to anyone and everyone...but that certainly didn't cause the downfall of it, just some disagreements within it.

For those of you who don't know, UBB, and vBB for that matter, are run with a control panel. In the control panel you can choose to hide a forum, without actually deleting it. That was the case with area 25...
