Thank you, Ethelred, for dispelling my pessimism.

Haupt. Dietrich, that issue is precisely what I was thinking of when I thought "in Civ3 turns." From what I've read, many of those countries remained "technically" at war for some time to come, and "military units" still cross the border with intent to kill Israilis.

This is, I believe, what Revalation (I think) may have referred to when the words "False Peace" were used.

If I understand your statement correctly then I believe the "False Peace" also refers to when the antichrist presents a solution to the ME crisis thereby creating a short time period of false peace. The false peace occurs just before the last climactic war we will fight.

One doesn't need to be a completely neutral third party for the third party peace negotiations to be realistic. In fact, I'd imagine that if one were completely neutral, one wouldn't care about peace one way or the other, both in Civ3 or the real world (which is probably why there are few real life examples).

One could, however, use third party negotiations to stop a war by threatening to intervene on one side or the other, or use them to broker an end to a war where you have some allies fighting along with you. Both of these types of interventions have been common throughout history, and I think would add to Civ3's diplomacy dimension.
